Angeles Range

I went to Angeles Range today for the first time. I have to say I was very impressed with it especially the metal targets! Cost was ok and I forgot my discount coupons . I think I will try it on a Friday next time. I just hope it is not crowded.

Theres gangbangers at most ranges in SoCal. Angeles isnt too bad, and the range staff don't take **** from anyone. Burro Canyon is bad, especially in summer.

I dont see why gangbangers would only go on crowded days though, I've been there when it's only me, my buds and some tatted baldheads down at the end. They go anytime, not just when its crowded, it just seems like theres more when its crowded.

Yeah, it seems that way. The guy there said "Sometimes people complain about the staff yelling at them, but we only yell at people when they break the rules".
They seem to catch just about every safety violation. They're very observant. Heck, my dad and I were halfway down the benches and my dad got a squib in one of our 1911's. The guy heard the telltale squib sound all the way over there and told my dad to check the barrel (Of course he already knew it squibbed, but it was nice of the RO to mention it :-D)

Honestly, I don't know what to think of this range, all I know is that I don't like it.

On one hand, you have:
-20 something range officers that are nothing but immature *******s on power trips. (If you violate any of the rules, the 20 something range officers will yell at you over the loudspeaker like you are a 5 year old.)
-Super strict rules about having to put on ear and eye protection before coming withing 20 feet of the shooting area.
-Nosy range employees that poke through your ammo box without asking for permission.
-Nosy range employees who will handle your firearms without permission.


On the other hand, you have the SAME arrogant, nosy, young employees telling you that its ok to build an OLL with a detachable magazine. This actually happened to me, I was talking to a range officer who was standing next to his friend and a second range officer who was shooting a detachable mag AR (not SB23 compliant). I asked him if he registered it before 2000 and they gave me a chuckle, saying that it didn't matter whether or not the magazine was fixed and it was a "technicality". According to him, the cops that shoot at Angeles don't care if people have detachable mag OLL's, so I can take off my fixed magazine when I shoot there....

Seems like they aren't very discerning when choosing their employees.

On the bright side of things, the range there IS really nice.

good to hear positive things about it, the range is about 6-7 miles from me and I'm right off the 210, still have to find time to go shoot a few rounds through my sako there

I've been up there a few times and don't have any real complaints.

I have a tendancy to rapid fire, but have never been yelled at. I've walked away with the belief that the RO's there will only harrass you if you are being stupid and unsafe, other than that they don't say anything to you.

If you go up there, bring a box of clays and throw them on the berm. Clays are more fun than papers. Bring your own food and water too as the closest food is 7-11, which is a 5 minute drive.

The range setup is pretty awesome. IF you ever get a chance to go up to the private range, Eagle's nest or something like that, you definatly should. The last two times I was at Angeles was up in this range taking courses.

See thats why I don't bother correcting people unless they are putting someone in danger as if I correct them and Its register, I'm an mule. If its unregistered and its an officer... Them I'm a mule. If its unregistered and illegal and I tell him.... then he still believes hes right and thinks I'm a mule.

I remember a post a while back when some guy said he saw someone shooting an ar15 with a detachable mag and was "getting annoyed" at the fact he wasn't obeying the law.... but then we got into the post later and we all started saying It could have been registered or he could be an LEO.

So its sometimes good to let it go and don't get dragged into it. What if its some paranoid gangbanger that things your going to rat him out and he waits for you in the parking lot. I mean he does have the rifle with the pistol grip, he won't have to reload!

I work at a range (no, not Angeles) and there are people bring in their OLL to shoot. I have being working in range environment for the past 8 years and can now careless about what people bring into the range to shoot. Some people has asked me if it's okay to shoot their AK/AR/FAL/G3 (OLL or not), my response has always being that as long as they handle it safely, I don't care what gun they are shooting. I will also point out that if the firearm is indeed illegal for any reason, he/she's the one that have to deal with LEO, prosecutor and judge.

However, if they are interest to learn about how their gun is legal or now, I am more then happy to share my 2 cents and help them stay out of trouble.

I diddn't see any of that when I went the other day.
-I only saw 5 or 6 employees on duty, and 2 were in the office/shop. Everyone was really cool unless someone did something stupid. The only incident I remember someone getting yelled at for was when some older guy started handling his rifle during a cease fire while people were still downrange.
-The line was probably less than 20 feet away, but regardless, it's a good safety rule. I'm sure they dont want anyone to lose their hearing or get popped in the eye with something
-Diddn't see any employees poking around in anyones ammo boxes.
-Diddn't see any employees touching anybodys gear at all, even during the cease fire inspection (If someone left the action closed or magazine in the RO would ask the person to fix it rather than doing it themself)

Maybe I just got lucky, but I dont have a single bad thing to say about the staff.

I'm not a gangbanger, nor do I look/dress like one yet I still get hassled.

I know there are a lot of people working there, so it probably really depends on the employees. I just think its ridiculous that their actual range employees are telling everyone its ok to sideskirt the law and put detachable mags with their pistol gripped OLL's, that's dangerous advice to be giving.
