    Something Up at WalMart?

I stopped at the Milpitas WalMart on my way to the range this morning. It's one of two WalMarts in the Bay Area that sells ammo.

The shelves were bare, save for a few boxes of .22 and 12ga birdshot. I asked the clerk what the deal was, and he said the last shipment they got was 2 weeks ago, and was only some boxes of .22. He said they weren't phasing it out, that he knew of, because the manager still wanted to sell ammo. (He tells me that being one of two WalMarts in the area that sells ammo is pretty profitable)

He said the WalMart trucks just aren't sending ammo.

Have any of you seen this at your WalMart? Just local to Milpitas? Anyone been to the Mountain View WalMart lately? How's the stock?

I was in Austin, TX last week and the situation was about the same: shelves were half empty. Prices were essentially the same as the Mountain View, CA Walmart.

if you want ammo now, stop whining and go to a gun shop to get some ammo from people that actually are in the gun business. The extra few dollars a box is worth it to keep them in business, considering Walmart can just drop it like *that* and they just need to replace it with something more profitable, like a starbucks kiosk or something.

Curious it is. Keeping in mind the massive buying power of Walmart, could it be they just aren't buying right now for whatever reasons?

Take it easy, I am sure he knows that.

i'm sure no one would mind spending a few extra bucks on ammo, but i'm pretty sure we aren't driving to walmart for a single box of ammo. we (at least me) buy A LOT at once. so would i rather spend $150 for 5500 rounds than $400. thats like finding a good deal on a used gun, then sending the money you would have spent (had it been new) to the actual manufacturers of the guns just because they made it. should you not buy anything from walmart/costco because they don't specialize in that single product? think about what you're saying.

            bottom line, i support walmart.

Baldwin Park, CA has a Super WalMart and it's against their policy to have any type of ammo, except maybe air gun pellets.

I hit 2 Wally Worlds a few days ago. The one on the West side of Lancaster had SFA. The one on the East side had a few boxes of plinking .40S&W but looking at the clientale I thought I may have to use most of it to fight my way back to my truck. Won't be going to that one again..

Same situation up here too, bare shelves have been replaced with GPS units and other sport related items. I've never seen it this bad. I talked with a WalMart DC (distribution center) employee who said he hasn't seen and new product arriving either.

They are in the same boat as everybody else. They would like to have ammo on the shelves but they can't get it either. I talked to one of the sales guys at a WM by my house as he was filling up my bags with some 9. They got in 2k that morning when I left they had 1k.

I hear ya and for the most part I do avoid Walmart where possible because I'm aware of the struggling mortar & brick establishments..but I'm also aware of the struggling ironchef in need of 600 rounds as cheap as I can get them.

it is a tough call, and since I'm almost certain a trip to Fairfield any time soon will be fruitless as I'm guessing they're out too..so I will do as you say and hit up Antioch Armory...for a couple hundred rounds, and maybe some speer gold dot HD ammo.

I can tell you EXACTLY why, and I work security there so I know for sure why. Since Obama has been elected, there has been an extreme increase in those buying ammo as well. The main warehouse cannot keep up with the demand of what people are buying. It's not that less are being sold, just everything being bought before they can get more, as opposed to the way it used to be when not nearly as many people were buying.
