Carrying while biking

After reading through this post and thinking about it some more, going to keep rolling with what I have carried for the last 10 years; a canister of Fox pepper spray in my jersey pocket and at times a Taser to go with it.

Think a pistol is more of a liability at this point.

A shame, that trail is hands down on of the best things about Sacramento. I commute to and from work and put 50 miles a day on it. Haven't driven my car to work in years.

Lots of creepy crawlers on the trail at night but have not had one single problem except a deer jumping out in front of me and missing me by a foot

Times are changing though. I see more and more transients further east than downtown, sometimes 15 miles out of the city. I sometimes see young attractive girls running by themselves at sunset and asking myself what are they thinking. Probably what I'm thinking, nothing will happen tonight [emoji12]

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions . Some good ones.

Btw, for anyone inclined to carry while biking, put my Shield in my side bike jersey pocket and it fits perfectly and does not shift around. Gave it a test ride this morning. I'm seeing the practicality of subcompacts more and more.

The fact that you are commuting to/from work and not just out "joy riding" as it were, actually makes a difference IMO. Probably would make a difference to a prosecutor as well. Many of us travel through "shady" parts of town to get to work since it is the faster, most direct or even easiest route. The lack of joy riding and perhaps other routes to take can be important.

I assumed you were just out getting exercise, not commuting. Might have been something you should have mentioned in the original post.

MrOrange, not everyone has the ability to avoid crime ridden areas.

They do if they purposely make a trip specifically to go to them, which is what an outing on a bike would entail, unless it's a regular commute, which we now know is the case. Even so, it's not like a diversion is impossible.

If you happen to live and/or work in such an area, it's obviously not as easily avoidable short of moving or getting a job in a different location.

Fewer "safe areas" in LA County than there used to be. Crime has become more random also. It's not enough to just avoid the bad areas like we all used to years ago. It is becoming more of a liberals egalitarian paradise every day.

Must be in dam good cardi shape if bicycling a couple hundred miles a week.
The Sacramento area shouldn't be as bad as southern kal. Motor, I mean, pedal on.
