Carrying while biking

Well first off, don't ride your bike at night. Just because you "can" or because it's your "right," doesn't make it a smart choice. I love running when it's cooler at night too, but I just don't.
Having your CCW isn't a piece of paper that states your "family jewels" are any bigger either. These two post sum it all up. If you know the area is risky and you choose to go in there of your own free will while armed, you are just asking to go to Jail. Any decent prosecutor will argue that you went in looking for trouble when you could have simply chosen a different path (pun intended). Is risking your life and your potential freedom (not to mention your livelihood) worth riding in that place at that time?
Find a better place to ride, ride at a different time of day and so on. Make a smart choice and you'll have a good life.Last edited by baggss; 08-23-2016, 3:16 PM.Comment

I second the Hill People chest pack or you could get a Ribz front pack also.Comment

But seriously folks, unfortunately the world we live in is reflected in baggss post.
If the area is crime-ridden, and you went there, it's your fault.
You know how police are always shooting folks who question their authority and then drive anywhere near them? I've called 911 when people have deliberately tried to run me down and was told "Well you shouldn't have been standing where you might get run over."
Since we know that even if you had a LTC you'd be illegal in that area, your trouble will be double.I meant, it is my opinion that...

I have both the Hill People and the Ribz packs. The Ribz looks less "tactical" than the Hill People pack. The Ribz is pretty incognito and looks like a normal piece of hiking equipment. I use mine all of the time. I use the forest green one. You can sew in hook and loop panels into the inside of it and use hook and loop backed whatevers to organize your various tactical chochkies.Last edited by Urban Achiever; 08-23-2016, 1:42 PM.Comment

These work well. If OP insists on On-Body carry, a Hill People Gear Runners Kit bag like this.
Make sure you do something to make it look more like a first aid and/or reflective gear type piece of equipment. By itself, it just screams CCW to me. With a Red Cross sign and some high visibility yellow tape though, it would be way less obvious.
Name of the game when CCW'ing in the open like this is misdirection.Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. Oversentimentality, oversoftness, washiness, and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people." Teddy Roosevelt

Same thing I use. Works great. Might want to consider investing in a 4oz canister of pepper spray. Probably all you'll ever need on a bike. Transients and out of control drunk teenagers are biggest problem on bike trail. Easily overcome with the spice.Comment

I absolutely agree we can't avoid high crime areas. No joke. Really, I agree.
Just be ready to spend 5 or 6 years of your, after bills paid, savings and put it toward a good, no excellent, defense attorney for when you get arrested for legally & ethically saving your own life. And I'm no joking about this paragraph either. Not to mention anything about personal injuries.
In Silicon Valley, some people who have the money, pay, and I am not joking, pay a million dollars more for a house just so can get away from crime ridden areas. Some will say it's the schools, L,L,L, yah-got it. For those that are accessing the danger correctly start by physically separating themselves from this street creeps. It has little to do with zip codes and all that. They know that if they live on this side of town then substantially increase the probability for having a entire range of sexual assaults, robbery-not stealing-robbery, dog attacks, and we haven't even mentioned being attacked by creeps with guns or edged weapons yet.
It is a sheet sandwich the OP has to take a nightly bite out of just to bike ride from one place to another. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. Best of luck to you.Last edited by hambam105; 08-23-2016, 2:33 PM.Comment

That's what I did, moved to a very affluent neighborhood with manned gates and roving security to escape the feral insanity of our urban areas. OP should consider carrying pepper spray if he must commute anywhere. The other is not worth the risk.Comment

Most cyclists carry spare inner tubes in them, so it doesn't scream "gun" to anyone on the bike trail, or any other cyclist anywhere. These work well. If OP insists on On-Body carry, a Hill People Gear Runners Kit bag like this.
