Intresting fact, they were Smuggled to Rhodesia thru Denver's old Stapleton airport. By some guys in Boulder who ran a certain publication. With some help from Sympathetic airline employees.

My outdoor shooting drops off drastically during the summer because of the heat and BLM land closures in my area. Both indoor ranges close to me allow rifles up to .308, but I just don't see the point in shooting rifle calibers at <100m.

The two recent threads about Mini 14's have rekindled my interest in shooting mine, which is a 195 series, 1998 vintage. Now I have to wait almost four more months to run some rounds through my Ranch model.

Thinking about getting one of those Accustruts and either a peep sight or maybe a rail to mount an optic.

Owned one for almost three years, spent most of the time searching for a consistent accuracy. Spent almost a thousand bucks over my time with the rifle attempting to make the rifle more accurate. I even went so far as to analyze high speed footage of my rifle cycling to look for problems.

All that, yet you never sent it back to Ruger to be repaired??? Somethig don't smell right ~

Everybody pretty much knows that early Mini 14s are not the best for shooting small groups---and yet, my early blued GB model is surprisingly accurate---my stainless GB not nearly so much---I've got a mint, used stainless 580 model, but haven't shot it yet---we'll see...

For what it's worth in this pointless thread; my one experience with a mini14 was unimpressive at best. But then again, some people just have low expectations.

Because according to Ruger it was shooting within specification and any work done would not be under warranty. It wasn't broken, it's just a poorly designed and made rifle.

New sight would be good, but also look into an adjustable gas block. My high speed footage showed excessive vibration through the barrel and reciever due to too much gas. I talked with a British chap who was getting some impressive accuracy out of his Mini with the gas system disabled. Between my footage and his results it was pretty easy to see where a culprit for many of the Mini 14s accuracy problems lie.

So, if your rifle was not shooting at this "level of accuracy" Ruger would have fixed your rifle for free! You really like to tell half truths to somehow try to make your "point". Do you have an email or proof of any kind Ruger denied you warranty work?

They batch test for 4 MOA at 50 yards. That doesn't mean they will warranty work for 5 MOA at 100. How is that hard for you to understand?

You gotta hand it to the guy for showing up in every single Mini-14 thread. You would think he misses one here and there but he doesn't.

I plan on getting a Mini-14 so I can put an EBR stock on it. It's gonna look good and as long as it it can hit 8" gongs out to 200 yards I'm happy. I'm too cheap to get good ammo to shoot for groups nor do I have the skills to.

It's the only time I've ever seen him post anything, and it's a barrage. I have a 581 mini 14 and it's not my favorite gun ever either, but sheesh. It shoots and shoots and shoots and the accuracy is good.

As I stated once before if a competition benchrest shooter tried either a mini14, ar or Garand, any military style rifle for that matter, they'd throw it in the river and call them a piece of crap.

I get it that he doesn't care for them, that's totally fine. I also get it that the AR platform is inherently more accurate, that's fine too. And that's also well established across the board. But to thread jack every Mini 14 topic belittling people while making absurdly ridiculous claims comes across as juvenile.

I, for example, don't care much for Glock's. But I get them, and I know they are as reliable as a hammer. But I don't hijack every Glock thread with my gripes against them. If they float your boat, and work for you, that's cool.
