Edit: Ackshully, the ONLY time I have ever seen anyone shooting a centerfire rifle at 15 yards was at an indoor range a few year go. I was shocked. The rifle in question was an AR-15 variant.

I have owned a IBM M1 carbine ,cute little rifle. If ruger made it in 1973 people would be trashing it right now.
Limp round, not good for much
      not very accurate
      no stopping power
ok for shooting trash at 15 yards.
i would much rather shoot a Mini 14 than a M1 carbine. I do understand the historical significance of the M1 carbine. But to say the M1 carbine is a great rifle and the Mini 14 is not shows bias, nothing more.Plenty on this forum rave how good a ranch rifle the M1 carbine is .

i like my mini 14 mine the front catch nub is connected to the recoil spring so it is more forgiving during magazine insertion than my mini 30 "which i guess all mini 30s are ranch style" they have a fixed front nub and you really have to rock and lock them with my "mini14" i can shove it in almost like an ar-15 and similar to m1a

            accuracy wise its acceptable

do the new mini 14 have a fixed front mag catch nub?

When I was rocking a mag in my buddy's mini 14 this weekend the magazine floor plate slid off and out came the rounds lol.

                Great rifle.

Boy you and Mini rifles LOL

You mind me of a friend who hate Sony products because they always die on him. He recently picked up a PS3 in perfect working conditions and today it died on him after using it for 2 weeks. He had some other Sony products that died on him as well.

Maybe you should go to the Ruger factory and see how many Mini-14s you can break

Yeah, I think it is a decent rifle for $400, that's what I sold mine for to a friend. He's happy, he likes the look, sound of the action closing, and generally shoots soda cans into nothing at 20 yards. But at $750 to $850 it's just crazy to pay that much for what you get.

As I've explained before I comment on these threads because people claiming they are "accurate enough, 100% reliable" convinced me to waste my time and money on one.

Lol, the irony is out of the half dozen Minis I've shot over the years the best was/is the older pencil barrel, specifically a stainless one in wood stock.

Yup. Just like an AK. Both great rifles..

A shooting buddy (AR EXPERT) brought a friend to the range awhile back with a Mini.
AR EXPERT couldn't get the mag in. LoL
I told him...Treat it like another great rifle, ROCK IT IN. AR EXPERT was NOT happy.

AR EXPERT showed up with an AK a couple weeks ago.

AR EXPERT is really a nice guy but has some misplaced firearms opinions.

Yeah, it was the included 5 rounder, the one with the plastic bottom.
