    308 vs 30-06

I want to get a budget rifle for doing some mid-long range shooting.
    Should I get a 308 or a 30-06?
Also for rifle recommendations, I want to find one that's less than $500.
    Just something to practice with.
Remington 783 is what I have my eye on.
    Thanks.

        I'm leaning towards the remington.

Both are great firearms. Id go with the cheaper and use the rest of the funds on ammo.

              I think I'm sold on the 783 in 30-06.
Trying to find it for around $329 tho.

,308 actions are typically shorter than 30-06 actions. That usually means a shorter bolt throw and a lighter weight rifle.

I don't plan on carrying it for hunting so I'm not as concerned with weight.

I would jump on that in a second if rent wasn't due tomorrow. worked OT this week so I'll probably pick that up next week.

For such a cheap rifle, no way I would mail order it. Too much BS to save what? 25 or 50 bucks? Naw, just look local.

I've ordered a couple firearms from them. FFl charged $50 that included dros. everything went fine.
