Just wait until FN trolls us buy releasing a few thousand SCARS in November and go oh our production caught up

After the years I see some guns come in batches. It's like with SP-01 sometimes they are sales but other times you can't find them anywhere.

Well I just picked mine up today from Riflegear and one of the employees asked how much I had spent acquiring it. Went I told him how much I spent he said it was a good price since he's been told that the Msrp for them is going to be rising to $3600!!!
When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Did not know that you are a warrior and a fighting man whose M14 (or M1A) failed in the fight and had to resort to your Scar 17 to save the platoon.

Many men better than you and most certainly I, have and still do use the M14s in serious situations without any problem. If you can not carry a 12 pound rifle into battle, you need to hit the gym and have no business in a gun fight.

I have not seen a single line in this thread about what makes a Scar better than an M1A or M14s.
Just because someone made a new plastic rifle, some forces picked it up because they had the extra budget, and mall ninjas droll over it and have wet dreams about it, is no reason that the M14s or the M1As are POS or grand pa's rifle. we still use B52s and they were designed and made way before your grand pa was out of diapers.
Oh, by the way who died and left you the battle rifle expert?

You obviously didn't read the article or are just in disbelief. Or as I suspect, you don't have particularly strong reading comprehension skills.

I don't like needlessly heavy, poorly designed, ancient rifles, but my argument is that M1As are crap. I used to be on the fence about them and at one time I almost bought one. But over a few years time I've learned enough about them to know that they are simply not a great rifle.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I have done enough research now to know that I would buy a .308 AR and probably a couple other designs before I bought a M14 clone.

You really don't know much do you?

Yeah, but that is MSRP. FN'S website says the current MSRP is $3349, So that would be a $200 increase or about 7%....Not that bad since they haven't really changed the MSRP that much over the years.

It's down to the SCAR and HK416 to be France's next service rifle. 100,000 rifle order.

France, one the world’s first adopters of the bullpup rifle, will officially be abandoning the stockless rifle concept for good, it seems. The competition to replace the venerable FAMAS bullpup rifle has moved forward, and the only competing bullpup design, HS Produkt’s VHS-2, has been eliminated, along with Swiss Arms’ SG 550 and Beretta’s ARX-160.The downselect means that the next French standard rifle, replacing the four-decade old “Bugle”, will be either the Fabrique Nationale SCAR or the Heckler & Koch HK416, two heavyweight competitors on today’s rifle market.

FN may be prepping for the real possibility that they might win this military contract. IIRC, civilian SCARs are made overseas and then imported and 922r'd.

FWIW I love both my M1As and my SCAR17. The M1A is definitely not crap. I've had a PTR 91 and an AR308 that I traded away because I like the M1A so much. Its a huge plus that it is also "featureless". The SCAR17 definitely outperforms the M1A but accuracy is about the same for me, sub MOA. Both rifles are way more accurate than I am. Some people just either really like M1As and some just don't.

Oh and BTW, the SCAR17 is not worth $5000-$6000. That is just stupid. I don't care about supply and demand. If everyone around me jumps off a bridge does that make it a good idea? Hell no.

However, while those people selling their SCAR 17s and exercising their right to free market are getting results in the form of buyers and gaining from it, you are not getting an audience willing to put a stop to their exercise.

As a more than satisfied SCAR owner, I actually agree with OP about SCARs not being worth $5000-$6000. I don't care about supply and demand and the free market. That's all BS. As a business major, I know there is more to pricing and value than supply and demand. First off, buyers are not behaving rationally and are greatly over valuing the SCAR. At a price of $2500 to $3000 its worth every penny. But $5000 and up, that's just plain old dumb, no question about it. People that pay that much have so much money that it doesn't mean anything to them its just pocket change.

Also, buying a Fugly looking rifle like a Scar 17 does not make you a super Operator or a Star Ship Trooper. However, I agree with some previous posts, it is still a free country. They sell Soda at the movies for $7.99 when you can get one at the store for $.99 cents or at Costco for $.35 cents. So, if you hate your money that badly, feel free to pay $5k, $6k or even 10K for a Scar, but that won't make you Israeli Special forces and you will most likely miss the paper completely at 100 yards anyways.

I have shot a fellow Calgunner's scar a few times we were at the range and will not trade an M1A for a half dozen Scars. There is nothing special about a Scar but the new fad and the fugly looks of it.

It won't make YOU an "operator" - but hey, you'll "look" good in your Facebook posing posts.

Yep, Abso-frigging-lutely. You should email the French Army and Special Forces to inform them that you see their need (based on news footage you saw) and have approved of them to replace their Mini-14s because you are an expert in battle rifles by reading the interwebz while you were on the fence about buying an M1A.

And, while you are at it, inform the French that your expert opinion comes from when you saw some CNN footage about German Special Forces carrying Scar Lights which totally blew you away.
They certainly need your kind of expert advice on battle rifles.
