It sounds to me that he is saying we will suffer the consequences of liberty until we get rid of those liberties... so we will continue to be attacked since we will not compromise our own Constitutional rights. Such is the price of freedom.

Untill of course, we DO compromise our rights. There's plenty of history on it. That's one reason the founding fathers made our democracy representative. because if it's a direct democracy, it's known that The People will always vote away their rights for security.

I do not believe that had the shooter been denied the purchase of a firearm that his intent would have subsided or gone away.

This evil person was ready and willing to MURDER a large number of people.

If the gunshop had refused his purchase, I am sure he would have been like "well, I guess I cannot go murder people now." Yeah, no.

Illegal purchasing of firearms is still available to criminals as is the creation of IEDs, homemade bombs, knives... you get the idea.

The problem is that the person was intent on murdering folks, not that he had a gun or was able to purchase one.

If there was ever a loophole, it would have to be one in the background check system.

Biggest loophole for me is criminals not obeying laws.

We gotta close that loophole ASAP.

Comparing the US situation to Australia is not a fair comparison. While the legal guns were confiscated plenty of criminals kept theirs. There are still gun crimes in Australia. Also, it is easier for them to control their borders being an island and I assume it is much more difficult to smuggle in contraband. If the US was able to disarm law-abiding citizens then the Cartels would have a new product to smuggle, guns.

Tell me exactly what the FBI is supposed to do when they review someone and find that no laws have been broken? It's estimated that 30% of the people on the terrorist watch list have no business being there. That's not a terribly high accuracy rate.

Honestly...are they supposed to throw the person in jail anyway? Assign a detail to that person 24/7 for life? Fabricate some "evidence?" Last time I checked we still lived in a somewhat free society.

I get that people are mad and scared. But you will never have 100% safety/security. That is an illusion that doesn't exist. When we're talking about straight up evil, there will always be some bad people that slip through the cracks. If you want to get mad at someone, get mad at his wife who actually knew this was going to happen and did nothing. Get mad at King Barry for creating ISIS in the first place and still refusing to do nothing about it. Don't get mad at the FBI for adhering to our constitutional rights.

One year, one group "shouldn't" be able to purchase firearms. The next year, another group is added. Next thing you know the definition is so broad that not even Mother Theresa would be able to get one. One man's "reasonable" is another mans "not enough."

There already is purchase control. One can only purchase what they can afford.

I whole heartedly agree with you. If someone is intent on criminal / terrorist activity they will get what they can to accomplish their desire.

My original post was not to say we should abolish the 2nd or not have due process for those under investigation. I was merely stating I am fed up with the people in office at this time. Regardless of party.

I believe we do need universal background checks across the country. This also won't stop those intent on doing harm. But it is a start.

As most of us are from CA and do disagree with the current state of CA gun laws. Who here can say that they can't buy a firearm as long as you are legal to purchase said firearm. As long as they CA legal ETC.

To me, this is not a good enough argument. Universal background checks are not free, cost time, and (as you admit) will not stop bad people from doing bad things.

                          So why do it?

I am not saying I am totally against it, but a-step-in-the-right-direction simply isnt enough.

Not only that, this Orlando bozo had a state wide firearms license.

That is a big part of what I am fed up with. CA gets to choose which guns I can buy, how often, and how many. CCW is a crapshoot in this state because we have BS Sheriffs that won't stand by the people.

The whole Handgun Roster and banning specific guns by name is BS.
ESPECIALLY when LE is except from the roster. I thought the Roster was about safety? Don't we want our police to be safe?

Or are they saying that Police are smart enough to pick their own guns, whereas I am not?

All of the bills even proposed this year are outrageous.
You have law abiding, good people already afraid of the effects of these laws.
And they haven't done a thing to deserve it.

Not Gun Control but Purchase Control

once you start messing with one of our enumerated constitutional rights they all become open to manipulation by whoever happens to be in charge. we have thug, gangbanger, illegal alien, drug, radical moslem problems that are abetted by a culture of p.c. the bill of rights is not a problem, it is what makes america great. lets attack our problems, not our advantages.

The FEDs found nothing of actionabke intelligence. But lets say we do have this law for guns. Why not the 4th amendment? You know, random searches by police or the feds? A camera in thier home, car and workplace?

Hell the San Bernadino shooters made pipe bombs. Surely a few trivial violations of the forth could make it easier to capture similar plots.

One of the victims hid in the bathroom and kept texting his mom to call 911. I don't get the leftist, they want people not to be able to defend themselves, but rather to cower in fear and call 911 and wait.... and wait some more. If even just one of the law abiding citizens in the club had a CCW, the death toll could've been dramatically lower, but the media won't say that.
                                Thanks.

As a man that is gay and a ccw permit holder, the media expects me to act like SWAT.

But what if a permit holder was in the bathroom, had turn off the lights, and had the gun on the door behind cover and concealment?
