Shooting is a perishable skill and a very expensive hobby. It's not for everyone.

I have a few close friends that are ignorant and argue with me when it comes to firearms. For example, I mentioned that I continue to take classes and practice to hone my skills such as being able to shoot accurately with any gun I pick up. His ignorant response was "Your wasting your money, I can shoot accurately with my 1911 & don't need a class to shoot accurately and be proficient." I responded to him "you should be able to shoot accurately with any gun and you have no idea how you are going to be in a high stress life threatening scenario and will probably freeze if your pistol malfunctions". He disagreed and said his pistol doesn't malfunction. I also told him that I bought a sight tool and started to change out my sights but marred the front sight. His response was "You wasted your money! You can just punch out and in sights, it's easy. Who needs a sight tool!". Extremely ignorant and this is my close friend. I just say my point and move on even because he's too ignorant to listen. Because my close ignorant friends exist, I'm sure there are others out there. If ignorant people think they know it all and don't believe experienced individuals, then let them continue to be ignorant and just move on. Those that don't have the time or money, that's completely excusable. Props to everyone who share their honest experience with inexperienced individuals.

Honestly, I don't take too many classes because the cost of living is so damn high here that I really can't afford to. The cost of travel, ammo, and a class itself is typically the equivalent of two car payments, half my monthly rent, or my licensing exams for work.

Is this about training seriously or seriously training?

Between work, family and graduate school I barely have enough time in the day to even fart . Years ago I practiced more often but sometimes things and situations change as you all know. Hopefully this summer I can get back into the game of practicing more.

Come on, you can always make time to fart. You've just got to learn how to multitask.

                    Awesome. Thanks for the PMs.

I think that CGN has a good cross section of gun owners. So I would say the issues probably affect other gun owners in similar circumstances.
I'm going to work on getting some classes together.
Great instructors, all skill levels welcome, food provided, no beards.
                    -for a reasonable-competitive price
-gear available to use if needed
                    -4-6 hour classes
Pistol. Carbine and intro to 3-gun. I'll try to include basic medical in each course, offer night classes and exposure to a shoot house for all levels.

I've had my beard since 1997. I'm not shaving, so I guess I'm out.

For me it's the money. I make less than $2k a month with the GI bill. That doesn't go very far

Actually we are just tired of self proclaimed trainers trying to make a buck off of us. Almost as bad as life coaches and personal trainers.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

Interesting topic, why not train. The fire extinguisher example is very valid. Much more likely to need to acquire and deploy the extinguisher than a firearm. I run an air pistol league. Very inexpensive and all equipment is provided, you only need to show up. Targets, pellets, Olympic grade air pistols all free for use by league members. $20 covers the cost for all 10 weeks of the league. Training and coaching provided. My observation, is that some people do not like to know how bad they suck. Law enforcement seems to be the worst. We had a few but they did not stay with it. I use air pistol as measure of how well I can place a shot on average. Very challenging. No recoil, no ammo cost, no noise, just my ability to squeeze the trigger in reaction to visual cues observed in sight alignment. Will this help me if I'm attacked by three large assailants as I return to my car from grocery shopping. I dunno but I like to think so. Handling is familiar and intuitive. I do need to practice more with the fire extinguisher tho

Isn't being proficient at COD and owning some sort of bullet button AR sufficient training?
