I had a couple of coworkers flake on me, but two of them actually really loved shooting. One of them even got himself an AR an we go shooting sometimes.
the other guy wants guns but cant really get one without his wife divorcing him haha.

My first time was because of a coworker. He asked if I wanted to try and at 34 years old (yeah.. late beginner) ... I was excited but a little scared at the same time. The first squeeze and bang made me realize what I was missing my whole life. The very same day.. I put a deposit down on my first handgun (HK USP 40) and the rest is history.
As to friends and relatives that I have taken to the range for their first time... Most show up. A couple are just as bad as me now when it comes to guns. I do remember my wife's doctor asking me if I could take him shooting. He said he's been meaning to try it for the longest time. Gave him my number but never heard back from him. Next time I go with my wife for her appointment, I just might remind him about it.

My wife cried and had to leave the store when I purchased my first handgun, I had many shotguns and rifles at the time. She was overwhelmed that I was buying a gun designed to kill people.......

Fast forward to today, 28 years later and she has developed a severe range addiction forcing me to purchase even more handguns and long guns.

If a new shooter is the least bit nervous, do this:

• Focus first on safety. Go over Cooper's Rules and emphasize how simple and effective they are, and how easy they are to follow.
• Start with .22 LR. Every California shooter should have a couple of .22s if for no other reason than so they have platforms for showing n00bs how to shoot.

I've run into this a few times. In those situations, I'm almost 100% positive it was performance anxiety more than anything else. The thought of going to a range, shooting at targets, and having someone watch you really closely to make sure you know what you're doing can be intimidating.

They're so afraid of guns that they feel no one should have them except for the police. Then the day happens that crime happens to them and the police didn't get there fast enough, then they want a gun for protection.

Yeah, this is pretty common amongst the sheep. They whine and moan about guns but the second the balloon goes up, they come scampering to your door sans their holier-than-thou attitude.

Back in the 90's I lived in an apartment complex and one of my neighbors was an ultra-lefty ACLU lawyer. We'd gotten into the gun debate more than once and she made it clear that I was a racist white elitist dinosaur. One day after the Northridge earthquake she is at my door, begging for water as she had none stored away. I obliged her and she confided in me that she and her domestic partner were terrified to stay in the complex with no power, water, gas, or protection. I calmed her down and told her that my wife and I were not leaving and that if they felt threatened that we would protect them. I then showed her the revolvers I kept loaded for protection and demonstrated how to properly handle them. She suddenly got very calm and it was like watching a thunderbolt hit her. She got it. She understood.

Months later I convinced them both to come to the shooting range with me and while neither of them ran out and became gun owners they seemed to enjoy themselves and the topic of private gun ownership never came up again in a negative light. This was my first experience changing someone's opinion simply by presenting the facts and sharing my knowledge and passion. I've endeavored to repeat this experience over the years and am happy that I've helped open the eyes of scores of "the enemy".

I've offered up a few times to friends and acquaintances that have never shot a real weapon a trip to the range to see what its like.
Everybody I asked was down for it but never committed, I stopped asking after a while because it was making me feel like I was weirdo gun nut.

Wrong attitudes dudes.

The flaking can be frustrating, especially if you're out cash and time but what does that have to do w/ the firearms and being a pooshay.

Try this next time, get them invested in the trip. So for example, ask them to pick out and purchase some eyes and ears, give them specifics (remember they're new) like 30 nrr ears, full wrap around coverage glasses etc. Then wait to see if they follow through before you put out a lot of effort.

This way you can avoid putting out too much before you know they're committed to the event.

Throwing up your hands, calling names and mumbling/grumbling is just another word for quitting. Sorry, it's an excuse.

If it were me I wouldn't care. It's just more ammo for me.

I have a general rule and that is they pay for the ammo you bought for the outing and your meals to balance it out.

Ammo is expensive these days and so every bullet you save is better for you.

I guess in the future you'll stsay away from that co-worker. Those types are the ones that'll rat you out and get you fired. That what happens at my work place.
