SSE means a good way to spend 25 Grand.....‼️

Bonus points for naming the location of the SSE littered pool table.

              Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Nobody in this thread has actually spelled it out directly.
                  1. There is a roster of pistols that are approved, you can only buy handguns off the roster if you are doing a dealer sale/transfer.
                  2. There are several exemptions to the roster. Such as PPT. Another is if the firearm is dimensionally compliant (length) and single shot. The intent of this exemption was directed to Olympic competition style handguns. This is the SSE "Single Shot Exemption". If the firearm meets this definition, it is exempt from the roster and can be transferred.
                  3. People figured out you could install a long (useless) barrel and plug the magwell of normal pistols, therefore making them meet the definition. FFL's could receive a normal pistol that wasn't on the roster, modify it, and transfer it that way. Since the change was non-permanent, after the 10 day wait and you pick up the mangled weird pistol, you just put a normal top end back on the pistol. Often returning the weird top end back to the shop that sold it, so that they could use it for the next customer.
                  4. Once this became more widespread/common, they amended the law so that the pistol had to have started out single shot, and can't later be converted to semi if it was transferred under SSE. This basically ended this method of getting non-roster pistols in their normal form. You can still transfer pistols under SSE, it just has to follow the new details, which renders the use of this exemption pointless for most of us.
There's some other details/nuance to it but that's the basics. We had a few years where you could effectively buy any pistol even if it wasn't on the roster, as long as it was modified for the purpose of the transfer.

I started doing it back in 2011-ish I think with EBR in Thousand Oaks. 2A Zone got a LOT of money from me.

It started out looking silly but somewhat serious Josh, like a 1911 with a long barrel sticking out of it and a wooden block in the magwell held in place by a grip screw or something. But by the end of 2014 the ways people were accomplishing the goal of meeting the exemption requirements was downright comical. For a few years it made it so we could pretty much buy whatever we wanted to. The gun had to have a long barrel and be single shot blah blah... but no law said it ever had to fire that way. You'd take possession of the gun, field strip it, and hand the conversion stuff back to the dealer on the way out. Or pay them a dollar to do it etc... In 2014 it started a buying frenzy as Brown and the liberal idiots were able to shut it down.

                      All laws are poorly written.

Some read laws or Rules or procedures and find a legal way to accomplish what the law tried to stop.

                      its law school 101
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

SAE is still available for revolvers. (single action exemption)

but not like that is a hot market so i doubt that will get stopped.

i really wish i jumped on the SSE wagon before the ban.

Yeah I always wondered about that on a few revolvers I was interested in lately. Basically pay $50 extra to buy it and then another $50 after DROS to convert back right ?

This thread came up at a good time I was going to call around about it this week sometime. Saw a couple revolvers in stock that were interesting.
