I know that SSE stands for Single Shot Exemption but I'm not understanding what that means. I've tried googling it and reading forums about it, but its all foreign sounding to me.

This. By temporarily converting off-roster handguns to a single shot configuration (including blocking the mag well and swapping the barrel) FFLs could sell otherwise unattainable handguns. When you bought the gun you would just change it back to standard configuration.

It was not a "loop hole". Those yahoos in Sacramento write the blue prints for how this stuff works. If the restrictions they are trying to accomplish are not complete, it's fair game...

I would call the SSE a loop hole if it allows you to legally end up with exactly what the law intended to be illegal. The bullet button, however, would not be a loop hole since the resulting firearm ends up altered to fit the crippling intention of the law.Comment

Single shot firearms were exempt from the handgun roster. By converting it to single shot, an off roster firearm could be sold. The new owner was then able to convert it back to a semiautomatic configuration.Originally posted by Ant45Plenty of people who don't frequent internet forums are blissfully unaware that their guns suck.I don't understand. Okay I'm starting to understand it now. How would you convert it to a single shot?Comment

You convert it by doing what was posted earlier:
