When you know he's a poser

At the shooting department at Bass Pro and there were two guys next to me and one points at a Colt 1911 and the other guy was like "Yea thats the new Glock 19, I've heard about that!"Comment

solid points.I always wondered why this bothers people so much, yet they are perfectly happy confusing "bullet" with "cartridge." Many or most Calgunners use "bullet" when they mean "cartridge," every day. A veteran poster just did it in the trunk gun thread.
BTW, I have several editions of Small Arms of the World dating back to the 1960s, and they use "clip" and "magazine" interchangeably. So it's not exactly a n00b practice.
Then there's Savage Arms, who probably know a thing or two about firearms:
I agree a clip is not a magazine; but the conflation of the two terms is so widespread, including among actual firearms authorities, that the Clip and Magazine Police who surface every time anyone mentions a clip on a gun forum (often, even if the term is used correctly!) make themselves look a little silly, at least to me.
Now using "bullet" when you mean "cartridge," that's unforgivable. I have never seen any authority make that mistake in print. Pure n00b move.
never, ever, ever degrade yourself to that point. its better to hear crickets than to simply add to the white noise.Comment

While I completely agree with your assessment, I am puzzled by your ref to "small genitals". That's a line right from the Anit-2A crowds playbook...then again if they are Antis trying to pose, then it's particularly well aimed. If they're just clueless then maybe not so much.I love talking guns. When that topic comes up in social gatherings I make sure to speak up. One thing that always entertains me is when "that" guy has to look "the part" speaks up.
What lines have you heard that tell you that you're talking with a poser?
My favorites are:
"If I were to get a gun for any occasion it would be a Desert Eagle." (This is a line usually from 40+ yr old men with small man parts.) No offense meant for those that actually own Desert Eagles.
Last night talking with a guy I've known for 20 years when he saw me buying .22 ammo said..."I'll just buy me a glock and all my problems will be solved" as he held out his hand sideways gansta style.Comment

I try not to harp on people for using the wrong terms, such as "clip" instead of "magazine" or "bullet" instead of "cartridge" or "round".
What gets to me more is when people believe in the "urban legends" of guns. For instance, I'm a big fan of the Jack Reacher novel series by Lee Child, but for all it's good, the guy doesn't know dick about guns, but attempts to make it sound like he does. In one book he writes that the Glock 17 is called such because it holds 17 rounds. In actually it's the 17th patent, hence, Glock 17.
He does this again in another book when Jack Reacher opts for a Beretta M92 over a Glock of the same caliber because, according to the author, "it has more stopping power".... WHAT?!
My point is, that people hear, see and read things that aren't true but then regurgitate them as facts later on, no matter how ludicrous it sounds to us. It's just kind of how it goes I guess."Far and away the best prize life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." - Theodore Roosevelt

I love any time someone uses the term stopping power. "Forget that 9 and go with a 45... way more stopping power."
Personally, I don't care about clip vs magazine. Don't know why it bothers people so much. Especially when those same people (myself included) use "bullet" instead of "cartridge" as Mitch pointed out.iTrader: 52 transactions, 100% positive.Comment

Hmm.
So, if a guy says this, do you ask him to pull down his pants so you can confirm the size of his man parts?
I can't figure out how else you would know this...Comment

Had someone strenuously insist that my 7.62x39 AR was an AR10. "No way can an AR15 receiver handle such a powerful cartridge". After a couple of failed attempts to correct him, i just walked away.sigpic

My favorite is when they start a thread titled, "When you know he's a poser"

*this is just meant as an internet joke. No disrespect is intended to the OP. I happen to agree with almost all posts in this thread.

The preceding statement was false.Comment

Heard in the gun shop:
"When I'm hunting with my .22, I go out to 600 yards, and I won't use hollow points because they flutter up to 6 inches traveling that distance".
"A Marine I know, won't use a gun. He wants the bad guy up up close to use a knife on him".You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time.Comment

When they say 9mm is as good or better than a 45, or 308 is better than 30-06.
