One of my best friends had a pistol that he kept for home defense. He owned 2 rounds for it. One in the chamber and one in the mag. His rebuttal to me telling him that he needs more ammo was "dude if someone's in my house, that's all I need. I won't miss when they're that close."
A few years ago he may have rethought that and upgraded to a XD and keeps a full mag+1 in it.

I was simply observing how the clip/magazine thing gets so much attention while the bullet/cartridge thing doesn't, even though there is actually some justification for confusion in the former, while there is none for confusion of the latter.

Racking a slide to scare people away.

Getting a pump shotgun because its more childproof because a child will not be able to rack it.

Customer: I am not sure, what do you have.

Clerk: I have this 6" GP100 in .357 magnum. Is that what you were thinking?

Customer: No, that is the one that only holds six bullets right? I want one that has the clips you stick in the gun.

Clerk: Well, that does limit your choices. We have this Desert Eagle in .44 mag.

Customer: That is more like it. But it is a little to big. What else do you have?

Clerk: Not much in magnum calibers. We have plenty of semi-autos with a wide range of calibers. We have .380, 9mm, .40, 45. You just need to pick something that feels good to you.

Customer: That .380 sounds nice. I like that it has the biggest bullet.

Clerk: Well not exactly, the .380 is the most under powered round but is nice for smaller guns that could be used for conceal carry. If you are looking for a more powerful round you might look at .40 or .45.

Customer: Oh, I thought that the larger number meant that it was a bigger bullet. What do the police use?

Clerk: Mostly 9mm. We have a bunch of manufacturers that offer 9mm. We have Glock, Smith and Wesson, CZ, etc.

Customer: What guns do the police buy?

Clerk: Most likely Glock over all the others.

Customer: Awesome. I will buy it.

Clerk: Which model?

Customer: What do you mean? There is more than one?

Clerk: Yes we have a couple here. Places both on the counter.

Customer: Damn, this is what I am talking about. Picks up both and sweeps just about all the employees behind the counter. How much do these cost?

Clerk: Watch where you are pointing the guns. They cost about $600 and some change after taxes, fees. You can pay up front now or put a deposit before the 10 day wait.

Customer: (Disgusted look on his face): Whoa! I only have about three hundred. What is this waiting period? I need this now.

Clerk: Takes the customer to the case containing the High Point. Love at first sight after he hears the price.

My number was called and I lost the conversation after the clerk was explaining the HSC.

I like shooting guns. I like talking about guns. I like looking at guns. I like holding guns. Taking them apart and cleaning them. Modifying them to my liking. I like buying guns and ammo.

However, I never profess to know more than the next guy because I don't. There are so many nuances to the gun world that it is difficult to know everything. I have too much other stuff in my life to spend all my time digesting gun nomenclature, ballistic info on ammo, etc.

What really irks me about "posers" in the gun world is people who criticize others for their lack of knowledge about guns. The people who portend to know everything there is to know about guns, shooting, safety, practice, etc are intimidating to those who, like me, just LIKE guns. So...you get people spouting something they read on the internet and trying to sound like they are knowledgeable when they aren't. This is just so that they can try to "keep up with the Joneses" in the gun world.

Why do we eat our young? How about instead of critiquing others for their lack of knowledge of guns you try to help a brother out? If you're not being an intimidating Jackwagon then maybe the noobs wouldn't be regurgitating some clap trap they saw someone post on Facebook. Or Twitter. Or Calguns. How about talking sense to other shooters and treating others with respect and care?

Or is that just me?

I have helped many newbies and we laughed along the way. I usually take a few friends out to the desert and we have a few laughs at their shock and surprise. Many have genuine fun and are not posing. I think this thread is about the few who take it to the next level. In my example, I will never forget that guy sweeping the employees. The clerk handled it with professionalism. Please laugh at me all you want. I am that fat white dude stereotype in physical appearance only. If you want to see me ask some dumb questions, visit the reloading forum. I have been making a fool of myself over there.

I totally agree. We should try to help the FNGs so they can be responsible gun owners but after a couple of tries it's probably best to walk away.
