Contrary to what most will say - I think there is a "limit" (from a practical perspective) for both guns and ammo (or anything for that matter):

If you have X amount of money to buy a number of rounds of [insert caliber here]:

    1. Why buy a caliber that is incompatible with the guns you own when you can buy MORE ammo for the gun that you do own?

    2. Why spend all the money on guns when you can spend it on something else (this is for those who owns multiple sets of "combat" loadout (i.e. more guns that you+family can handle at a time) - you could've spent the money on more ammo, training, accessories, etc.

    3. Your gear is only as effective as you - your mind/skill/body. Spend the money on what makes you better - and simply buying more guns is not the solution. Training, training, training.

That being said I'm not in the position to tell you that you're doing things wrong but rather I'm telling you things that I think makes the most sense. I'm probably only half the age of the majority here so who am I to tell you to do things. Only thing I can tell you is I aim to focus on skill improvement this year and hopefully I'll get to go out and train with well known instructors at least once if not twice.

    IMHO. YMMV.

When the government wants to ban, limit, tax, fee, or register how much ammo I wish to buy or own, then I KNOW that no matter the amount I already have or want to acquire, it's impossible to be TOO much.

Whatever they say, whenever they say it, I take that and multiply NEED by 1000.

One consideration to take into account is what you call home.....house in the suburbs, apartment building in a densely populated area, condo in a high-rise.....? If it is one of the 2 latter, then it might be prudent to limit the amount of ammo stored because if a fire were ever to break out somewhere in the building and spread to your unit...........

Ammo is a currency you can use to trade for bread. or literally use the ammo to acquire food lol. Anyways its an investment. I'd buy spam cans to preserve the ammo or put the ammo in ammo cans that has a good rubber seal.

When is it too much? When you're spending all your food, rent money to buy ammo. You'd know you have an addiction.

It's too much ammo when you have to ask everyone for free ammo. When you have some already.

I think for the most part, the prices of commercial ammo have remained fairly constant with the rate of inflation, not taking consideration for times of panic and shortages. Ammo that has far outpaced the rate of inflation is military surplus ammo which was sold for pennies on the dollar. Those days are long gone and due to restrictions by the federal government, we probably won't see again. The modern surplus ammo that we do see is only priced slightly lower than commercially available ammo.

When we look forward to increasing anti-gun legislation, taxes, fees, and the corresponding panics and shortages that accompany them, it only makes sense to buy in bulk as cheap as you can and stack it deep.
