    When is TOO much Ammo?

I have started to pick up ammo as the sales hit. I just started buying ammo for calibers that I dont yet own guns for. (Is this uncommon? A disease?)

What is an acceptable amount of Ammo to have. I thought it was weird that people purchased 1000 rounds at a time. Now im guilty of such an act.

Just wondering how much ammo enthusiasts keep on hand.

Do you acquire it just to have it? Keep it for a rainy day? Investment? SHTF?

You'll realize you have too much when you need to move. Until then, keep stacking!

its not weird to buy ammo for a gun you dont have...yet. the important part is that you will get a gun in that caliber in the future. if the ammo prices are low now...why not buy now...its not like the ammo will go bad.

i buy ammo when it is a good price that i can not pass up and i try to buy enough to last me for a while. I also buy enough to last through high ammo prices, although i do shoot less when that happens.

Too much ammo is subjective. if you have the money and the space to store it then it is never too much...as long as your other obigations are taken cared of

No such thing as too much ammo to me.

I store it for all types of scenarios. Depending on the ammo I pick up I will decide whether to store it or use it.

If SHTF, ammo can be traded for many things.

                I had 600 rds of .45ACP & I didn't even own a handgun!

Shopping for my first handgun in 2009 all I new was that it would be a .45. I started buying ammo... in 2009...

My wife bought me a reloading press that year so I still have most of it. Yes.... I have .45ACP range fodder that cost $.55/round...

You have too much when it doesn't fit in the safe.
But that just means it is time to get another safe.

Good point. What about a secure locker vs a safe?

Much cheaper than a safe. ( I was kidding a little.)
I am in a humid area and the safe is in the garage so I have the ammo in there with the goldenrod and desiccant.
I like it locked up because it took years to get my hoard of .22.

If (OK, when) I get a couple more rifles I will need a Plan B for ammo.
Some of the guys just use the army style ammo cans that have the rubber seal on the lid.
Some then put a small bag of desiccant inside to keep it dry.

I might go with a cheaper Stack-on or similar when the time comes.

The only time I worry about to much ammo is when I have to take weight into consideration. My truck has a 1500lb payload capacity. I've over loaded it a few times. A pallet of .22 is 1700lbs.

No such thing as too much.

Even if you have to start worrying about what the floor loading capacity is where you store your ammo, that just means you have to find new places to store your ammo.

When you have to stack it up on your front lawn because there's no more room in the house and back yard, you got too much.
