Your first attacks should be slash attacks to hands, arms, neck and face. If the sight and panic of his profusely bleeding and gaping open wounds don't deter him, slash him some more, then start stab attacks. When you stab, slash on the way out, rather than pulling the blade straight out.

There's a guy that shoots the SDPS matches at Sac Valley Shooting Center that does knife training. Can't think of his name, but if you e mailed one of the club officers they could give you his info.

You are advocating disfiguring injury.. a knife is a lethal weapon. If you use it, it should be employed against specific targets to stop the attack (tendon, muscle) or stop the attacker (artery, airway). Slashing someone's face produces tissue trauma but does not incapacitate the attacker. This is just going to get you beat up worse, then land in prison. The rest of your post seems right on...

I second running.. You do not want to be in a knife fight. Either appease him, out run him, or incapacitate him asap. Otherwise your life is changing.

I highly recommend Liahona Warrior Arts in Citrus Heights. They teach JKD, boxing, Kali and Silat. It's a small garage school with great people.

          I was told long ago.

"The best defense is not an offense. It is simply walking/running away."

"It's a poor set of legs, that lets a body take a beating."

"Force is only to be used if their are no alternatives."

"If you must fight, fight to end the fight quickly, by any means."

His name was Ed Parker, and what he said was profound enough that I remember his teachings to this day.

I don't think I'd be any good in a knife fight in any case. Just reading this thread is making me queasy. [emoji12]

Not real, but pretty cool, especially what he does at 5:15 (warning: graphic)

Edit: I wasn't consulted on the sound track, it's awful.
Years ago I did a couple of weekend classes with the late Mike Inay. He and his students were really good.

You are incorrect, at least about the fencing part. Through a combination of formal training and informal melee fun/practice, I got quite good with a short blade (a knife) against another with a knife. I've sparred with "knife fighters" (with foam knives) and usually score many torso pierces while only receiving slashes to my arms. So I know that you are dead wrong.

I fenced foil, saber and rapier. Then i learned some real sword and knife fighting. Playing Games with fake weapons is not real fighting.

No felon or ex-con is going to play "west side story" with you.

What ever you do, just remember that it will not be as fancy as these videos... no one will poke you and let you do six or seven slices before giving up...as many said, run. If you cant, catch the hand with knife and hold tight. Bite and scream. I rather look like a sissy and live than try to look cool dying.
