    Knife fighting skills

As my EDC, I carry a Spiderco knife along with my Shield. Although I am decent with my pistol, I know virtually nothing about using a knife if I actually had to use it in a defensive situation.

Can anyone recommend training for knife fighting? Has anyone here actually had formal training? I live in the Sacramento area but would be willing to travel to the Bay Area if needed for some proficient training. Thanks.

        Some call it redundancy.

Honestly, the knife is just to cut things like rope. My last desire is to get into a knife fight. But I have it on me and I don't feel it so why not carry it and be prepared to use it as a last resort if my gun for some reason jams or any other contingency.

Honestly, I'd rather get shot than cut.

Straight up, no one leaves a knife fight uncut.
You WILL get cut, you WILL lose blood and it's going to hurt like a b****.

Check out Sensi Corey in Riverside. He is a master and would be worth hiring for some one on one training. You could fly down cheap on Southwest.

Its important to first understand how to defend against a knife. Only then can you truly master the art of attack.

I took fencing classes at the local junior college, just for fun. You wouldn't think it, but much of it is applicable to knife fighting.

I think I'd rather just throw my knife and hope for the best and run then get into it, I'm still fast.

                          The two I've heard...

                          If you both have knives,
the winner of the knife fight is the one who gets to die in the ambulance going to the hospital.

                          The other
was that even Bruce Lee prescribed running from a knife but fighting a gun.

The thinking being that someone with a gun can shoot you if you're running away but even with lots of skill & self-defense training it's smarter to just run away from a knife.(because basically humans are a big bag of liquids that we need to keep to survive.)

I believe you are looking for some actual training, if so, check out Eskabo Daan in SF, they focus on Filipino martial arts, part of which is kali. I've had private lessons from an instructor here, and it made me feel much more comfortable to carry a knife since I cannot easily obtain a CCW. Best of luck to you.

Agreed. Kali and escrima are valuable skills to learn.
