That's cause there is this country called the UNITED STATES and it's based on CAPITALISM....If people would quit defending the shops that are gouging and claiming it's just economics then we might get somewhere. I really think if we can start calling out the gougers and the newbs and lurkers see that then maybe we'd get some more informed buyers, which helps us as buyers. But some folks here would defend the gouging shops like they do the Constitution or something, which I can't understand for the life of me.
Maybe you could form a CO-OP or something....

"Gouging" is not only rational, it's actually a good thing because it reduces hoarding. If you have to pay 2x or 3x the normal price, people will really think about how many lowers they actually need. This means more people will be able to buy them.If people would quit defending the shops that are gouging and claiming it's just economics then we might get somewhere. If you don't like that argument, here's another one: gouging causes supply to increase. There are a limited number of lowers in the world because production capacity isn't infinite. Let's say hypothetically that there are 1000 "old lowers" in private hands and 1000 "new lowers" that will be built in the next year (obviously fake numbers, just an illustration). If prices don't go up, all the new lowers will sell out (duh) but no one with an old lower will have an incentive to sell it. If prices go up to "gouging" levels then some of the people with old lowers will decide to sell them. The end result is that more lowers have been put on the market. Again this is a good thing.Comment

Hector, He's to young to remember Carter's 'wage and price' freeze where the wages never caught up to the prices and my VA home loan was at 14% APR and car loans were over 20% APR.

IIRC, some states have anti gouging laws, correct?
During the many south USA floods and hurricanes there were some folks who said they would have paid alot of money for generators and pumps - and there were people from outside the area who were willing to get them there. But as one fellow observed, why should he drive from Oklahoma to Florida only to be told he could charge only X number of dollars for an ice box or water pump. Result was- no ice box, no water pumps for alot of people.
Gouging usually has the opportunity to occur when market conditions are not at the norm. Less than ideal conditions I suppose mean less than ideal solutions. That gouging reduces hoarding may not be best but overall it may be the best at that time.
If you're going to assert a free market is a good thing and capitalism works, I think you have to keep that approach even when it bites you in the fanny from time to time.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

I have issues with retailers deciding I'm fair game when something is preceived to be in short supply. Be it double window sticker on a new model car, local FFL dealers feeding panic to increase sales, or people profiteering during disastors, I'm going to pass on all of them. Valley Gun here is not jacking up prices, not making dire predictions to boost sales and is still making a profit, still selling guns like crazy. I wish I could say the same for the other local dealers...
I plan ahead as do most of the posters seem to here. You should already have all the firearms you need. That IS different from all the firearms you WANT...
And I'm finding a interesting trend. Non-tacticool firearms are bargains right now! Bought a Perazzi Skeet special for $1800 LESS then the one I bought three years ago! Same for NIB matched set of Browning Grade V model 42, $750 under LOW blue book...
Just got to know what and where to buy. Reward those dealers that don't gouge and they will have no reason to do so!
Same for Revolvers, .22s, etc.TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Thay are still tuff to get. will be for some time.
If you can put in the work to find em and then wait X weeks / months for them to come... you can save a little $$.
Not sure why everyone is so certain that prices "must go back down to where they were". We have no idea what the next few months will bring as far as statements, policies, bills proposed, etc.Comment
