I plan ahead as do most of the posters seem to here. You should already have all the firearms you need. That IS different from all the firearms you WANT...

And I'm finding a interesting trend. Non-tacticool firearms are bargains right now! Bought a Perazzi Skeet special for $1800 LESS then the one I bought three years ago! Same for NIB matched set of Browning Grade V model 42, $750 under LOW blue book...

Just got to know what and where to buy. Reward those dealers that don't gouge and they will have no reason to do so!

    Same for Revolvers, .22s, etc.

You are correct. FUD guns are not in demand because "The Messiah" has specifically said he is not going to take those. He left open the possibility of taking the rest....

Look at his voting record and what he has supported in the past. He has also surrounded himself with Brady minions. That is why there is a panic.

I had a Franchi 720 on the rack for full MSRP for $889 and I was tired of seeing it there. A guy came in, I said how does $700 sound, and it was gone!

I think the rest of your thread was aimed at me. How am I feeding the panic? By telling you the truth that there is nothing left out there? What have I raised my prices on? AR15s? True, lowers used to be $150. Now I have to pay more for them so I raised my price to $200. How many AR15s does Valley Gun have for sale? None. I was just in there the other day and there isn't a semi-auto left on their rack.

If you want, ask Ken what he thinks is going to happen to the gun supply. I would be interested in hearing what he has to say. Ask him to order you some semi-auto handguns and let us know what his response is.

I guess for trying to warn you I get labeled a gouger and a fear monger. I guess it would be better if I just kept my mouth shut and eventually let you figure it out on your own.

If you want something, buy it where you can and when you can. A fair increase in price is not gouging, it is continuing to make money on product that now has an increased cost and is in short supply. Doubling the price is gouging. 33% increase is not gouging.

But this is a dead horse.

I'm always curious about the rational about "soon-to-be-banned gotta have it now" people. Do you expect to have ranges that will let you shoot them? Will there be ranges in a GunControlWorld? Lead ammo? Permits? How far does it go?

I prefer stealth Tacticool...guns that perform the same function in a SHTF scenario but don't raise the same alarm to Antis...

M1 Carbines, Garands, M1As, even 1903A3s. And heck my Remington 742 with see through scope mounts and 10 round mags! My innnocent hunting gun is more dangerous then someones AR at 300 yards.

And of course my stripped lower (bought long ago before the "panic") sitting in the gun safe to hedge my bets

I would disagree, a "fair" price is what someone is willing to pay for an item. In one form or another, the market eventually sets the price.

I'd be interested to know what impact dealers think the present level of buying will have on future purchasing - is it sustainable?

IMO, supply will come into line with demand, if, demand is not propped up by extraneous things like people's perception of the regulatory climate. If that climate were to become as dire as some people may think, it would have a very negative effect on the living of people who trade in firearms.

            Wes,
I talk to Ken every week. Will see him today as a matter of fact. He and I are on the FONRA committee together. He is not worried about supply. He specifically stated he isn't raising prices on hard to get items!

If you feel targeted, that little voice must be your conscience screaming to be heard!

I'm always skeptical about people trying to warn me and sell me stuff at the same time...

Based on this, I totally agree and welcome to the current pricing of gasoline and home for sale...

The panic may be lessening some now, but come Jan 20 it'll all start over again.

Well for what it's worth the DPMS 7.62 cal magazines I ordered about 6 weeks ago are starting to arrive. Arrived direct from DPMS today and got a ship notice today from another vendor. True, they're not uppers or lowers and I'd guess pretty simple to make, but anything that goes from "Out of Stock - no backorders" to being in stock is good.

All I was trying to do was let people know that they could order from the manufacturer if they weren't in a hurry. Now we'll probably be locked soon.

                      There is no price gouging.

Price is primarily a function of two factors: demand and supply. The interaction of these two factors determines scarcity and price.

The supply of firearms and firearms accessories is pretty stable.

                      The demand has risen dramatically.

It is fundamental economics that prices will rise in this situation.

According to Webster's to gouge is "to subject to extortion or undue exaction : overcharge"

Even with a 1000% percent markup over the median market price of a product it is not gouging so long as the buyer agrees to the price of their own free will. The buyer is free to shop elsewhere, wait for a change in the market, or to not shop at all. The only way it could be gouging is if the good is sold under fraudulent pretenses, i.e. "This standard issue AR-15 is a bargain at ten grand" or "This 1911 will auto-aim".

I'd guess my pistol is worth 400 in it's current imperfect condition. I won't sell it for less than 800. Price gouging? No, I just don't want to part with it unless it's really worth my while. Unlikely that I will sell it - and I'm not trying to.

Those who raise their prices significantly over median market value will have a decrease in sales which will counter any increase in profit margins. If I were a gun shop I'd rather sell a hundred guns with a hundred dollars profit per gun than sell one gun with a thousand dollar profit.

For the last time, if you dont want to pay these prices dont. It makes us all look like whining babies when we beat this already dead horse. Supply and demand basic economics. Where where you when the housing market was over the top?

Will there be more lowers than demand anytime soon (thus prices returning to pre-election range) ?

I don't know. If a new ban does indeed come about, I'd be more concerned about them becoming worthless. The text of HR 1022 which I would suppose would be the model, has a provision than bans transfer of banned firearms.

So if a guy has several, or even just one lower that he can't build or sell, what is it worth?

My two local shops, City Arms and Tabor's, haven't done any kind of gouging. In fact, some of the prices are now cheaper. A case of "hard to get" .223 is $25 less than what I paid for it a year ago. It can't be that hard to get if everyone has plenty of it.
