    I have heard this too

but I don't trust the MSM; and I have been robbed at gunpoint, the PD responded to our call 10-15 minutes later. I don't think that kind of training works 100% of the time; the MSM and Police should really consider an alternative, like everyone being prepared to be on our own in an emergency situation....wait a minute!!!They do stress that for earthquakes, fires, floods, etc; EXCEPT SELF-DEFENSE????

      Ok, I have.

      And it sucked.
Everything went wrong. He got the drop on me. He had a semi-autorifle.
But I was, with the grace of G*d, Yaweh, whatever, draw and fire when he was looking the other way.

Four rounds I got off, he cranked off two. I got two solid hits and two clean misses. I fired until I saw him drop the rifle. By then my body had pulled the trigger four times.

If you practice and train, muscle memory WILL TAKE OVER. I mean it. I had plenty of opportunity to train back then and my training took over, I was drawing and firing before my mind registered it. Sounds crazy but it's true. I fired until my eyes and mind registered the threat was gone.

He ran about 60 feet before he decided to lay down and give up.

      I aimed for center mass.

I didn't think about 'kill' or 'wound' or whatever. I thought 'STOP THE THREAT'

It was only two days later that I learned that he lived.

He's in prison until 2042. He might live.

And, yes, I deal with it every freaking day.
I just have to say that I've read your story on what happened, and it's an informational and inspiring one. You did really well at keeping a level head, IMO, and prevailed in a situation where the odds were very much against you. I only hope that I'm never in a situation like that, and I hope that if I ever am, that I can respond the same way you did.

BTW: The part of your original post on the subject about the lawsuit later and getting to file a statement that you didn't shoot the guy by accident but on purpose was pretty funny. When else can that possibly be a good thing to say to a court!?

I feel your pain. For those of us which have taken a human life, things will never be the same. But, then again, better him than me!
i would like to tell you the situation as to my engagement of a guy but i cannot. but i can tell you i did not flinch nor hesitate to do so. all the years of training and instinct kicked in. it was automatic. i did have sense of accomplishment that i can and would engage someone without hesitation. and that is a test that must be passed. i did however tell the guy on the tank not to shoot the .50 over my head.

You're obviously new to firearms and to the use of firearms for self defense. If you have a gun and plan on using it, I would strongly suggest you educate yourself in times to use a firearm and times to try other options.

For instance, if you're in a situation where you are being attacked to only wish to shoot the guy in the foot to make him fall down, you have no right using a firearm in that scenario. The only time you should ever use a gun in self defense is when your life or the lives around you are in legitimate peril. And if that's the case, you need to stop the threat period.

If you ever use a firearm to try and wound someone, you are going to get burned in court.

Besides. If you honestly think that you could accurately place a single shot to an attacker's stomach, leg, or arm in an attempt to incapacitate him, you are gravely mistaken. I've been shooting firearms almost every week since I turned 18, and I still am nowhere near competent enough to pull off a shot like that.

shoot to kill plain and simple.
With the attitude, I sincerely hope you never ever have to use deadly force to defend yourself.

Actually, one should lay down their arms and invite the perp in for a cup of tea to discuss the situation. If negotiations get tough, offer up your wife or child, and if absolutely necessary, throw in your TV and computer. Clearly, one would not want to hurt someone that is down on their luck or never bothered to make anything of themselves.

Pretty close to how I dealt with the prowler in the back yard last night.

Except for the part where I checked the doors were locked with a .45 in hand... and sleeping the rest of the night next to a loaded AK.
