OP, we did this exact kind of layout during force on force (Simunitions) building clearing in 100% complete darkness (no ambient light whatsoever).
What a trip and what a learning experience it was.
Really learned to use a flashlight to my advantage, learned that darkness was my friend, learned I didn't want a weapon light blazing away announcing my position and learned in a situation such as you sketched, you best have a teammate to cover the other doorways as you slice the pie of each doorway before entering.

Clearing that scenario by yourself is a good way to get shot in the back by the perp as you enter a room and he shoots you from another room.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

in each room place Ceiling Mounted Remote Operated Simultaneous Shotguns.

          Or

          CMROSS for short.

Just say "knock knock" from room to room.

If you hear a "who's there?" you have an intruder.

Wo the Eff clears their house?! Get your family out, call the cops to do that.

You knowingly go in to be Rambo/Cobra/Riggs/McClane when your were already safely outside and end up shooting someone...you're hosed.

                Marco! Marco!

Seriously though, why are you clearing a house if it isn't what you do for a living? Just stay outside and call the cops if you think someone's in there. Maybe walk down the street and grab a taco while you wait for them to arrive. Unless you're actively trying to get into a firefight because Call of Duty just ain't getting you off anymore
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

I will take a moment to give you a serious answer. It is impossible for a single person to safely “clear” a given location alone. It does not matter the kind and/or amount of training or experience one has. There so no safe way for a single person to enter and clear a room without turning his back on areas that have not been cleared. To safety clear a given location, will always require at least one, preferably more to “cover” the areas further alone in the search. A basic rule of thumb – you should always have “two guns” on any potential threat location. To follow that basic rule will require at least four trained individuals working in a coordinated matter to clear a given location safely. Give some thought to why the typical SWAT entry team has 6 members.

                        1. retreat to a position where all ingress - egress points can be observerd.
                        2. Call in coordinates for fire mission.
                        3. Wait for the boom.
                        4. Building is now clear.

Or at least that's how they do it on the internets.

Eat taco bell, leave bathroom door open. I usually can clear the whole house

Sounds like someone was in the Air Force.

FUD! There is no duty to retreat in California, especially in your home.
