I think just pulling a gun out on these cowards would have them running faster then a gazelle in Africa. Pulling a gun out to even the playing field on them would have given them the shock of their life, I can guarantee that. That would have been my 1st line of defense, had I had to shoot after that for fear for my life, which was already present during the scenario I wouldn't have hesitated to fire. These people are animals, and don't deserve to be treated like a human being. That's my firm belief of the situation.

With 3 witnesses in a armed robbery gone bad , dont think there would be a trial.

All three of them came running and grabbed me while I was at the back/trunk of the car. My father was at the front of the car walking towards the drivers side. It was to late for him to do anything before they had a hold of me.

My guess is they spotted us walking down the street and saw me with a backpack as they drove by. They drove about 3 blocks a head of us and waited around the blind corner for us to approach. One major part of myself not being as aware as I normally am is I was in the process of loading my dogs into the car. Normally when I walk around I'm checking my back every 15 seconds or so. I've grown up in that area and been working at our business full time for 9 years now.

Another thing that I forgot to post, is when I heard the running foot steps behind me I actually thought it was one of the neighborhood kids that we know his family. Our family have known each other for 30 something years. I expected it was him just running up to say hi. The blind corner I was talking about is the street that family lives on about 3 houses up from the corner. Needless to say these worthless ****s couldn't have gotten luckier with the situation and my situational awareness at that moment. We all know these types of people prey on people all day long. My situation was a perfect ambush for them.
So assumptions were made which throws out situational awareness since you allowed it to be over-ridden.

Are knives illegal to carry in CA? At such a close encounter I would prefer a knife over a gun anyway. I carry both and if someone is inside 20ft I am using my knife.

I was not there so I can't be too harsh on you but with a son and wife I am always watching everything that goes on. I even make it a game with my son to see if he notices the stuff I notice and reward him when he does.

Risky tactic against three assailants, especially if they are armed. Knives are better than nothing but are not great defensive weapons once you lose the element of surprise. In this scenario if the guy farthest away did in fact have a gun, then you'll be shot once you start attacking the guys that are close. And in the event they have knives, then you will likely all butcher each other to death. Knife on knife fights generally result in critical (often fatal) injuries to both parties, not like in the movies where one guy escapes unscathed.

you can carry a non switch blade folding knife w/ the clip exposed. Not concealed at that point. or Open carry a fixed blade on your hip. Some cities have legal limits to them, shorter then 2, longer than 6 if I recall.

With three guns shot "victims", one "suspect", two "witnesses", an "alleged strong-arm robbery" and no weapon found on the "victims', it could go either way really.

My 84 yr old grandmother was the victim of a home invasion robbery in her house in Piedmont in 1981. The house was totally ransacked. She was beaten so badly that she died of her injuries 2 days later. Her friend who was there at the time and also beaten, described the perpetrators as "Three black men in dark clothing." No joke...............I still remember seeing her in Merritt Hospital in the ICU.

OP, I'm glad you and your loved ones weren't hurt. Like others have said, I wonder if it's time to apply for a ccw? This state, for all its beauty, is really terrible when it comes to protecting its citizens. A may issue policy in a large, dangerous city practically empowers criminals and turns everyone else into victims. For what? So we can say there's less "gun deaths", even if those "gun deaths" would've been 3 hate filled, don't give a crap about others, punks in the morgue? Wouldn't crime statistics nosedive if every time some punks try to commit armed robbery, they are met with an armed, law abiding citizen? We're suffering here in CA because of 1) slime ball, "make a name for me" politicians, 2) LEOs, active and retired, that don't care about egregious gun laws, as long as they're exempt, 3) ignorant voters that choose to remain ignorant because of their preconceptions about gun culture, and 4) the propaganda spewing media.

Sorry about the mini rant, but reading your story, OP, made me feel sorry for you and angry about the situation that could've been different in most other states.

If you're just an average Joe, you can be robbed ten times and it still won't be accepted as GC by an agency that doesn't or issue or seldom issues.

You made some good points, I bet if LE was not exempt from CA's anti gun laws we would start to see things turn around

I used to live 3 blocks from where this took place. That location is home to the illustrious Bushrod Gunnas, an organized crime gang. The first gang injunction was against them a few years ago. That whole area is full of predators. Its disgusting. My neighbor when i lived there was beaten with a baseball bat as she rode her bike from school.
The liberal non blacks don't address the issues rationally and white guilt is strong with them. They feel bad for these thugs. Things literally go down in a bad way every hour, all day, every day. People, don't let your guard down anywhere in Oakland.

Just FYI, the slogan "Black lives matter" was originally derived in the context of Police profiling and the brutality byproduct of such to the black community. The media, the Politicians and some "apparently brainless" folks then but a spin to it, and turned it into the most stupidest and racial dividing slogan of our time......... Just to satisfy their interior racial,or political motives.
