I was leaving my family business with my father and brother in law at about 4pm today. Just was I walked up to our car and I'm about to load my dogs into the back of the car and my backpack in the trunk 3 guys ran up from behind me and yelled give me the F'in backpack N***A and grabbed me trying to rip my backpack off. I was carrying a Multicam 511 Tactical backpack, which had all my personal belonging's like insurance and crap in it as well as my locked up Larry Vickers RTF2 G17, with Tan Surefire X300 Ultra and my Sig P238. I struggled with them for a second or two before I realized that there were 3 of them on me. After they got my backpack another one of them proceeded to rip my chains off my neck. In all the scuffle of them ripping my backpack off my dogs leash flew out of my hand and my dog ran into the middle of Telegraph, Out of the grace of god she didn't get hit. I have no idea how.

After they got my stuff they ran to a get away car on 62nd street and drove down side streets towards Oakland. I called OPD and they got there for the report about 10min after it all happened. After an hour or so and 4 eye witnesses they finished up taking their report.

I daily appendix carry my P238 at work and my RTF2 sits on my desk. I've been robbed before at work and I work hard to try and prevent being a victim again at all costs, but because of the BS laws and how ****ty Alameda county is with letting legal people get CCW's I was yet again a victim, with the situation out of my control.

The whole base of this thread is to say that I was legally following the law with my guns in locked cases and thats ultimately what caused more guns to get out on the streets in the hands of worthless thugs to do more harm to more innocent victims.

What happened to your father & brother-in-law???

Did the thugs only target you???

      Hopefully they'll get caught....

I was robbed at what turned out to be airsoft gunpoint on the night of the Mehserle verdict, it sure isn't fun. Glad to hear you're ok. If you have renters or homeowners insurance, they may cover the items taken (with a deductible).

This is a good example of why small businesses move out of black neighborhoods: violent crime, not racism. IIRC, Thomas Sowell (a black economist) did a study/article proving this. When owners/employees get robbed/mugged/shot/stabbed/killed enough times, they close up shop having learned a lesson in "the school of hard knocks."

About the incident: if you are unaware of your surroundings, you're a vulnerable as that white TX deputy who was assassinated by that black BG recently (shot to the back of the head followed by 14 more...).

It's amazing that 3 BGs were able to close on you with you, your BIL, and your dad (and a family dog), all present. My guess is that the numbers (of you), actually made you guys lower your guard because: (1) you figured w/3 of you, you're less likely to be attacked, and/or (2) you figured w/3 of you, someone is always watching every direction. But that's just speculation. Realistically, w/o a CCW, what could you have done if you had seen them running up to you?

Anyway, sorry to hear this for several reasons, incl that 3 BGs now have 2 very nice pistols for carrying out more violent crimes.

Plz review my Crime Avoidance & Self-Defense Advice linked in my sig line and share if you think worthwhile. You guys should always be covering each others' backs when in Oakland, w/your eyes if nothing else. In case you haven't seen it, yesterday a news article was released that Oakland was second only to Detroit for most violent city w/pop. >200,000 (http://news.yahoo.com/video/fbi-data...225033853.html). Imagine how this would have turned out if all 3 of you had CCWs.

You should contact the local Chamber of Commerce and see if other local business owners want to organize to push Ala Co sheriff (or Oakland's chief of police) to liberalize issuance the way Solano and many other CA county sheriffs have (Ventura, Orange, Riverside, etc). Those sheriffs haven't had any problems w/GGs CCWing and neither have the 42 Shall Issue states.

            I
am sorry about your situation and I am glad you came out unscathed. In some cases the victim complies and is shot anyway for sport.
Definetly a possiblity, everyone is responsible for their own protection and well being. I try to avoid visiting high crime areas, but when I do, I am super vigilant about scanning my surroundings and staying a safe distance from suspicious looking people. My kids don't need to grow up without a father, so having a weapon in my pocket will even the playing field.

Sue the city for denying you a CCW if you have applied and been denied.

IMO, they are liable for your costs.

Also, move out of that sewer.

I wonder if OP may have been targeted for the backpack with them thinking "lots of people who can't obtain a permit carry guns locked in those tactical bags". Far as I'm concerned carrying all the "tactical timmy" gear bags is pointless except when you're actually deployed.

Wow, that sucks mate. I was a little further down the street a little later in the day to buy a motorcycle. Being on foot in Oakland with $6k in your pocket isn't a good feeling. I would never suggest or admit to breaking the law by carrying without a permit, but these kind of things really make it seem worth it to risk the misdemeanor in return for the option to defend yourself.

Cash handlers do not walk around with Brinks bags in their hands. My friend usually drops $25-50k a few days a month into his bank and he uses a beat up old school backpack. 3:30-4:30 is typically drop time at banks. Even the guys that fill ATMs usually don't make it obvious they have a lot of cash on them. At an old job I used to watch the same guy fill the ATM like clockwork. It would be hard to notice him until he was at the actual machine filling it and he was always alone.

Situational awareness is crucial. If I was in Oakland I would have a second set of eyes at all times. For 3 people to not notice 3 potential threats until they were 3 on 1 leaves a lot of training need. I'm pretty sure knives and spray are legal in CA but since there were no injuries this time I suppose it's a win.

Phil the reason why 3 of them were able to get on me before anyone knew what happened is they came from around a corner that's pretty much a blind corner. All three of them came running and grabbed me while I was at the back/trunk of the car. My father was at the front of the car walking towards the drivers side. It was to late for him to do anything before they had a hold of me.

My guess is they spotted us walking down the street and saw me with a backpack as they drove by. They drove about 3 blocks a head of us and waited around the blind corner for us to approach. One major part of myself not being as aware as I normally am is I was in the process of loading my dogs into the car. Normally when I walk around I'm checking my back every 15 seconds or so. I've grown up in that area and been working at our business full time for 9 years now.

Another thing that I forgot to post, is when I heard the running foot steps behind me I actually thought it was one of the neighborhood kids that we know his family. Our family have known each other for 30 something years. I expected it was him just running up to say hi. The blind corner I was talking about is the street that family lives on about 3 houses up from the corner. Needless to say these worthless ****s couldn't have gotten luckier with the situation and my situational awareness at that moment. We all know these types of people prey on people all day long. My situation was a perfect ambush for them.
