Yes they can. I do contract work at Apple. If I want to keep the contract, I have to abide by Apple's workplace policies.

Some coverage of this here too:

Uber says it is banning all firearms for drivers or riders during rides arranged through the Uber platform. Previously, uber had deferred to local law on the issue.

It boggles my mind that this "policy" comes as a direct result of an Uber driver with a CCW intervening in a situation where a gunman was taking shots at innocent people on the street. Idiotic is to put it lightly.

The entire premise of Uber and Lyft is simply shady in the first place. I never have, nor will I ever be a customer of theirs. I'm not a fan of a business whose profit model is pretty much to throw sand in the face of any and all regulation that legitimate competitors abide by. AirBnB and its ilk falls into this category as well.

Easy boycott. Have never used "Uber" or "Lyft" in the first place. If the only advantage is cost, I don't see the advantage. I have no desire to let an amateur driver whom I've never met, use their personal vehicle whereby there is no guarantee of safety-servicing, and who has no accreditation of any kind, who has no requirement to prove or even care that he even knows where he is going - control the wheel.

I also don't call random strange girls off of Craigslist over to my house for sex without a condom either.

Used Uber for the first time a few weeks ago. It was actually pretty cool and convenient.

I doubt I'll ever ccw, as I'm in San Diego County. If I did, I wouldn't announce if I was carrying.

I think Back page is where most of the ladies of the evening hang out now. Most won't do bareback sex some will do bareback oral according to their ads. I agree outcalls are kind of weird unless to a hotel room. I wonder if any of these soiled doves pack heat or ever use Uber to get to or from visiting a John?

As long as you don't cap the driver you should be okay.

PS. I wonder what there policy is for a Police Officer needing to get to work?

I've felt safer driving with 1 lyft driver then I have a lifetime full of taxicab. Not Lincoln towncar or limousines though.
They have to be more careful, chances are they drive for both lyft and uber (as they encourage you to do). Ive seen more "amateur" drivers who are "licensed" and don't speak English line up in a smoke filled line brining people for extravagant amounts of money and still expect a tip, and also swerve while running red lights and almost running people off the road. I'm surprised I've never been pulled over while in a cab....

                          No.

They cancel your contract. Employees are fired, independent contractors have their contracts cancelled.

Symantecs IMO. The more potential control (exercised or not) they have over a "contractor" the more likely the contractor is actually an employee.

Obviously I'm pulling my conversation with the Uber driver out of context, but basically if you are having a conversation with someone about the difference in laws between AZ and CA you could easily steer the conversation to weapons if you feel out the person first.
