Which is to say the US has very little in common with the Western European countries to which it is often compared, and far more in common with our Western Hemisphere neighbors, most of which suffer horrific rates of violent crime.
I agree with you. I'm simply qualifying my previous statement that this event is going to be used to push gun control by twisting the reality of what's going on in the same way I predict the Progressives will since they seem to be in love with how every nation in the world that isn't the United States works.

Got to think like the enemy to understand the enemy. Doesn't mean you have to subscribe to their BS though.

Look at it that way and contrast it with the Progressives' all around agenda and I think it's obvious what direction they're going to take this.
Actually, if you look into it, the UK has 177% as many homicides as we do, yet very strict gun control. Basically limited to shotguns with no more than three rounds, barrels no shorter than 22"(or so). Rifles, with special need and permission only. Handguns, EXTREMELY restricted to absolute need for occupation.

Is that reality, or what the Liberals are going to run with though? See my point above.

Personally, it wouldn't matter to me if it were somehow more dangerous here as they like to parrot. Freedom is messy and comes dangers and rewards, both of which I couldn't live without.

Given this kid's social isolation noticed by other family members, it really is unbelievable that his dad thought giving him a .45 would be a good idea. Nice job, dad.

That is dumb; I agree. I mean, really - dude - THAT HAIRCUT!!!

But if his Dad had just as likely given the kid a Cadillac Escalade for his 21st birthday, and the kid mowed down this same church congregation as they stood outside waiting for a tour bus, or at a funeral, or kabitzing in the parking lot after bible-study - killing 9 of them - this story would have been a nano-blip in the media, you would have had to dig for it, and mostly local reporting to SC only regardless of his reasons.

Had that been the case, Obama never would have made the big political opportune breaking-news speech on the matter, nor called for addressing the "car problem" in the United States - which kill a WHOLE helluva lot more people in the United States on daily basis than do guns in a week's time.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

Yeah that seems extremely odd, I suspect we may not have the entire story there yet. Typically we get all kinds of inaccurate details this early.

Happy Birthday you crazy kid, here's a handgun boy!

Possible yes, but I want to know the facts.

The dad who gave a gun to his son who recently was arrested for cocaine, meth and LSD possession is also F'd.
A lot of people with chemical imbalances do well with the right medication. On the other hand, there are way too many cases of people with mental illnesses that are untreatable by medication alone falling through the cracks. Insane asylums started out with the right idea that people with major mental illness need a place to get treatment rather than prison, but got a bad rep because depressed housewives were getting lobotimized full 20 years after even Soviet Union banned lobotomy as being too inhumane.

Other than that, it's way too easy to blame guns for a tragedy precipitated by the tensions between the white and the black races, along with the criminal justice system cranking out thousands of individuals with ZERO chance of obtaining gainful employment and leading a normal life.
That ain't a stolen gun under my car seat - it's undocumented sports equipment!

Hate for this to be my first post...but, So. Carolina has very relaxed gun laws that we only dream about. Outcome could of been a lot different if someone was carrying.

Anyone catch the interview with the person who spotted him and called the police, enabling his arrest? He spotted him due to his haircut.

                    Lol.

Do we know what kind of 45 it was? I ask because i know they will push for some new law, but what? If it was a 1911 he had sub ten round mags, he was given the firearm so no background check law would have helped, no evil black rifles were used and church carry was also unlawful without permission. So what new law could they write in the still warm blood that they could say might have helped?

                        You know the answer.

                        Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

But Anti Gun politicians don't want to solve the actual problem.

They just want to use this tragedy as an excuse to add another senseless,
burdensome law to punish the millions of law abiding Gun Owners
who had nothing to do with this horrific act,
so they can continue to slowly nullify the 2nd Amendment with
their Death by 1,000 Cuts strategy....

It might actually be enough to force the Progressives to finally admit their goal is disarmament. Since a 1911 can't be twisted into a scary assault weapon of some sort, we might get lucky, causing them to push for a ban on all handguns.

Though universal background checks seem to be getting a lot of traction on the media message boards so who knows. Maybe it actually would be a good idea to head them off at the pass and offer a fake compromise for something that more or less already exists before they have a chance to strip us of yet another freedom. Conceal carry reciprococity in exchange for NCIS checks, anyone?

My prayers go out to the families of the victims. Until mental illness and the over prescription of psychotic pharmaceuticals in the United States is addressed it will be blamed on the method rather than the cause.

Why are there so may depressed Americans? (Anti-depressants are the #1 prescribed drugs in the US). Why Does the United States have more citizens incarcerated than all the countries of the world combined?

Why do elected Representatives magically morph into Legislators who then make laws that criminalize us, their constituency?

An actual logical examination of the root problems? that could result
                              in actually improving things? BAH!
It's so easy to blame the gun, the evil NRA and republicans.
Now you're going to get votes! and be a politician of action!
                              For the chillllllllllldren!!!!!
And you get to disarm the populace that is not on board with your "vision" of future America.
