I really have my stash to insulate myself from price fluctuations and shortages but if firefights are needed I and my neighbors will be knee deep in ammo.

I never see that happening. A major earthquake is my main concern so getting home and business continuity are #1. These are highly localized events so a week at most is what I plan my preps for.

I am not a prepper. I don't buy ammo and guns in case of a SHTF scenario. I buy them because I don't know what the ****ing libtards in the state and country might pull out of their ***.

Do some of these guys really think it's going to come down to battle with their neighbors in some crazy post apocalyptic scenario where you're going to need your pimped out AR and 20,000 rounds of ammo stashed to defend yourself. Could we ever get into that kind of situation? I guess so but chances are probably less than 1% that it would ever come down the "SHTF" that these keyboard commando's talk about. Come back to reality and leave the fantasy world behind.

OP, you are missing the point of the entire "prepper" logic. They all KNOW that all the "SHTF" scenarios are waaay out there... but that is how they "rationalize" and "justify" their excessive expenditures on weapons and gear, relative to their income and wealth, to their families and friends. PERIOD!

Hmm...we stand a statistically signficant chance of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake hitting SoCal within the next decade or two. If LA is leveled with an huge quake, I wonder what will happen with the tens of thousands of gang members who will suddenly have one of America's largest cities all to themselves with little to no law enforcement for long periods of time before the National Guard is in position, if they even are put into position to stop looting and rioting.

Yeah, definitely fantasy. Could never happen here.

Yep. And although everything is very very unlikley you never know. You keep hearing that California has 6 months of water left so what happens when you go to turn on the sink and nothing comes out? People are gonna flip out. Even if it only lasts a few days alot of damage can be done. I have guns and ammo because i love to shoot. Being able to defend myself and family is just a nice big bonus.

A disruption to the food supply is not all that hard to imagine. Any number of things could trigger it:

1) electromagnetic storm takes out power grid
2) EMP weapon takes down power grid
3) Collapse of US currency
4) oil embargo (less likely these days)
5) civil war, think post natural disaster or civil uprising like ferguson but s larger scale.
6) direct attack by terrorist or foreign country

Imagine what these disturbances would do when people cannot simply go to the store and get the box?

What would you do to feed your family if you didn't have any food and the stores were empty????

Now put some fear / panic in to the equation and multiply that times tens of thousands (local) or possibly millions (nationally) and what are the possibilities?

I absolutely have a SHTF bag with a rifle, handgun, ammo, water filter and some quick ready to eat meals. I also have a fair amount of food stockpiled. Call me a tinfoil hat wearing prepped if you want, but my family won't be the one without food or water.
