    SHTF WTF?

I have to laugh when I read posts about SHTF situations. Seriously? Do some of these guys really think it's going to come down to battle with their neighbors in some crazy post apocalyptic scenario where you're going to need your pimped out AR and 20,000 rounds of ammo stashed to defend yourself. And 2 extra replacement parts of everything...

Could we ever get into that kind of situation? I guess so but chances are probably less than 1% that it would ever come down the "SHTF" that these keyboard commando's talk about. Come back to reality and leave the fantasy world behind.

Am I alone in this thinking?

I'm not entirely sure what your "thinking" is.

Are you saying that it's silly or ridiculous to have spare parts on hand? Or that everyone should rely on a trip to the store before heading to the range instead of having a supply of ammunition on hand? Where exactly is the negative? I fail to see any issue, and you just complained about the idea of it without actually giving any reasoning other than "fantasy".

Food, water and shelter should factor in heavily as well. If you're patient, you'll likely be able to barter a gallon of water for a case of ammo, or pick ammo off guys who stocked up on weapons and ammo to the exclusion of the above. (not that anyone is likely to need more than 100 rounds, except in their survivalist fantasies)

You should be prepared for an emergency.

Some take that too far (Russians invading or Canadians) and others have two days of canned soup and a jug of water and call it good.

The likely SHTF scenario is somewhere in the middle.

What posts are you referring to? It sounds like you are referring to extended firefights which i have yet to see anyone advocating or rationalizing.

Maybe the OP is a psychic and will just head down to Big 5 or Wally World the morning before the next big CA earthquake?

Of course nothing bad would ever really happen after a quake which brings down utility and transportation systems for weeks or months.

Must just be a fantasy by some crazy keyboard commandos, I guess.

We all have a choice: We can be prepared and take care of ourselves and our families, or we can rely on the Gov to take care of us when something bad happens (and become unfortunate victims). I know which I choose.

My thinking is not about going to the store before a range trip or having "some" parts on hand. It's thinking there are guys that take the SHTF situation a little too seriously, like I mentioned, having a shoot out with your neighbors.

I'm also not against having ammo on hand, I myself have about 2000 rounds for each caliber I own, 9mm, 40, 45 and 5.56. But it's not for the purpose that I'll need that many to protect my home. I buy it when it's on sale to save money. I'm also prepared with a stock of food and water for an emergency, I just don't have an underground bunker filled with food for 5 years.

If the situation ever got really serious me and my family would be just fine. I have plenty of outdoor experience and equipment to get by for as long as I needed. If I HAD to live off the land for any period of time I think I'd do fine.

Don't even get me started on the zombies!

I still don't understand your issue with it. You're complaining because people have more ammo than you do? So what if someone has a bunker with 5 years worth of food. Hell, that sort of thing isn't even a recent trend when you consider people building themselves shelters back in the cold war. They've been doing it for decades, and unless it has some effect on you I don't see the issue.

Wait until there's a big quake in L.A. and the power is out for 3 weeks in the summer...

Some of these yahoos won't seem so crazy. The ones that stocked up for WWIII still will seem a little crazy.
