All of the experience and equipment in the world doesn't magically make food appear. Not to mention, where would you even go to live off the land?
Heh! And don't forget the competition from everyone else who can "fend for themselves and live off the land."

And unless you live out in the middle of nowhere with no one around for miles and miles, you think other people aren't going to have the same idea about hunting for food?

I'm also not against having ammo on hand, I myself have about 2000 rounds for each caliber I own, 9mm, 40, 45 and 5.56. But it's not for the purpose that I'll need that many to protect my home. I buy it when it's on sale to save money. I'm also prepared with a stock of food and water for an emergency, I just don't have an underground bunker filled with food for 5 years.

If the situation ever got really serious me and my family would be just fine. I have plenty of outdoor experience and equipment to get by for as long as I needed. If I HAD to live off the land for any period of time I think I'd do fine.

Don't even get me started on the zombies!
Why do you have 8000 rds of ammo. Are you planning on a shoot out with your neighbors?

I was completely with you and agreed with your rationale, up until the zombie remark.

When the zombie apocalypse hits and is later made into a documentary series, you may not make past the first episode.

This is a BIGGER fantasy then the firefights. At least the firefight guys are really only stocking up on guns/ammo that WILL eventually get used, if for nothing else then range trips. You on the other hand are basing your families survival on a total fantasy. You should spend some time reading through the posts on the Survival Forum (and other places) where it has been repeatedly explained how living off the land isn't really an option in MOST of CA.

I note your use of the word "STREET"....the same street that will have every other yahoo that thinks he's Danial Boone headed to the woods(?) to provide for his family. Hordes of HUNGRY crowds heading right past YOUR house...that you don't think will decide to invite themselves over to eat YOUR food?

The only game that will be plentiful in that park will be the other idiots out there with you, so be sure to bag your limit before starvation melts the meat off their bones.

And 2 extra replacement parts of everything...

Could we ever get into that kind of situation? I guess so but chances are probably less than 1% that it would ever come down the "SHTF" that these keyboard commando's talk about. Come back to reality and leave the fantasy world behind.

Am I alone in this thinking?

And with 40 million people in this State that will last how long?

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.
