If I had the money I'd say 5K per caliber is a good amount. Since I'm on a budget, I have two ammo cans per caliber, one for the range and one for "emergencies." For my emergency ammo I keep 1,100 rounds for my rifle and 600 for my pistol. I don't touch my emergency ammo no matter what. I have 8 mags for my pistol and 12 for my rifle. I also have range mags and SHTF mags. But honestly, even if I had a lot of money and had 10K in rounds per caliber, I probably still wouldn't think its enough lol

As much as you can comfortably afford to buy and keep/store.

Apparently you don't read about all of the problems and failures resulting in the sub $500 hand guns having to be shipped back for repairs / replacement, often, right after they received them. Even the $800-$1000 hand guns LEA s use have their share of problems when the round count gets up there. I merely suggested people consider stocking up on wear out parts too, like slide springs.

I don't shoot all that much per range session. 200-300 rounds at most, and that's in a month with different weapons. Maybe I need to reconsider my stockpiling plan and start hoarding more. Even with 22r still being scarce at the box stores, it's still obtainable, if one wants to buy the pricier match grade stuff. It costs the same as the flippers are charging for bulk garbage 22's, around 10 cents per round.

Think I'll go out and grab another 10 boxes of Walmart's $9.97 per box 9mm this afternoon. They always have that.
I reload. I have enough built to last years and components for a few more on top of that exactly so that I don't have to slow down and continue doing what I enjoy most, especially competing which requires a fair amount of practice (at least I do, not that good).

I also enjoy reloading, relaxing for me. And when I have the workup I want I'll crank out 1000's at 600 per hour. I don't watch television either, so I have the evenings. Bonus, my daughter loves doing it with me.

I actually didn't comment on the sub-500.00 guns. Cheapest I have are Glocks. Don't shoot them much but I have a couple of CZ's that I probably have north of 10k and one 20k on with no issues except periodic replacing of springs. But remember, even Glocks are tested for military contracts to be able to shoot tens of thousands of rounds I believe.

That's only like 90 rounds of mixed calibers, half of which you don't even have the guns they go with.
