How much ammo ?

Currently have 2k of 9mm and 2k of 45acp. How much is enough ? I keep buying when I see deals .

Money and space are practical limitations.

Can you imagine a time when you won't be able to buy any ammo?

Can you imagine circumstances when you might use ammo as a trading good?

How much ammunition will you need to shoot the rest of your life? How much for the entirety of your children's lives?


If these questions are too extreme for you then how about 'How much ammo do you need to get you comfortably past the next ammo shortage/panic buying? We'll be due for another panic around the 2016 Presidential election if not sooner.

If you don't have to crawl under your house to shore up the floor under your ammo storage area, you don't have enough ammo.

If your wife isn't complaining that she has no place for her shoe collection, you don't have enough ammo.

If the local hospital's MRI department doesn't complain that they can't get a clear image because of the magnetic field created by your ammo stash, you don't have enough ammo.

If China isn't complaining that they must limit their troops to 20 practice shots because some jackwad roundeye keeps buying all the available ammo, you don't have enough.

I'd say it depends on how often you shoot. It doesn't matter what we think. How much do you shoot? Monthly? Weekly? Everyones needs are different! Personally..."When the SHTF lead will be worth more than gold"

FWIW Freedom Munitions sells ammo in 50,000 round pallets. That should about do it.

I started with 6 months supply many years ago and thought I was well stocked. After the 1st historical ammo shortage, 1 year supply. After the 2nd shortage, 2 year supply. After even birdshot became scarce for a while, 8 year supply on shotshells.

25K in each caliber is "enough" then shoot/replace to maintain 25K.

You can never have too much. I try to keep 1k for each pistol and .223 and then about 500 each for 30-30 and 308. Once I hit those amounts I start prepping for a batch of reloads.
