It will turn into he found a receiver for a 1911 pistol.

Since it came out that he is renting it does not really matter. But I have bought 2 houses and neither former owner left forwarding info. One I could track down because of his family name but the old lady I bought my current house from would be difficult.
On another note both sellers left things and never came back so at what point does someones responsibility to return things end? I just thew the stuff away, but was I obligated to track them and make sure they meant to leave their stuff in MY house?
Something like a gun I would take to the police.Comment

I guarantee it happens more often than you might realize. Not necessarily guns, but all kinds of belongings left by former owners. Good example is after my grandmother died. We were able to clean out the living areas of the house but nobody was able to get into the attic because the only way in was through the end vent on the outside of the house - which happened to be home to a rather large nest of yellowjackets. We looked and looked but found no other way in, so whatever was in there stayed. I don't know if local family members ever went back so it's likely that whatever was in there when she died was there when the house was sold to new owners. Another example is a coworker of a member of my RC club who bought his house 12 years ago - but only went through stuff left in the attic by the prior owner a couple of years ago.
Live someplace long enough, gather up enough crap, and I guarantee you're going to leave something behind when you move.Tarasdad
