    Extremely pissed! Fair compensation?

I have been wanting this particular rifle for years. After busting many scammers on classified listings, I finally find a store selling a legal Cali-version. I wait months for them to get some inventory. I drive 2 hours on the only day I have free for the next 2 weeks to begin the DROS after I made the purchase online. They tell me I can't even see it until the Cali modifications are done, and they are currently out of stock on a bullet button. So we begin the DROS paperwork.
They already have $1500 for the rifle, and now want 150 for the Cali mods. They proceed to tell me 3 of my credit/debit cards are declined, and they will have to void the DROS until I can pay them in full. I have plenty of available credit and money in checking account. I drive home upset, angry, mad, pissed, you name it, I was it. I check with my banks in the morning, and all 3 transactions were approved!!! I call the store at 10am when they open. Guy tells me he is going to find out what happen and call me in 2 hours. I call him back 7 hours later, and he says, sorry it was their fault. He says they want to keep my business, and offers a discount or free ammo.
I have to wait 2 weeks to begin the DROS, and make the drive again. What do you think would be fair compensation for this matter?

Gas money and a couple boxes of ammo or a extra mag or 2 (depending on what rifle) Thats about it.

The discount or free ammo the shop is offering sounds fair. What rifle is this anyway?

I want to give them a chance to redeem themselves before I give them a horrible review. If I tell you which rifle it is, I would be giving away the store.
I was so embarrassed after this guy came back the 3rd time saying your card was declined. I'm thinking like 500 rounds is fair.

500rds of ammo would be above and beyond what I'd expect.

How many gallons of gas did you use? As long as the discount or ammo covers that then take it and move on. Unless you are talking about .22LR, 500rds is an unrealistic expectation.

500 rounds? no way. take what the shop is offering you and be done with it.

You sure it's a charge and not a hold? Either way, I wouldn't deal with it tbh. The guy charging is either new or incompetent. Or maybe it's a new system. Second strike is not calling when they said they would; a big thing with customer service.

Hopefully you got a good feel from them to make it seem like they'll keep their word about the compensation. 500rds is too much to expect. You'd probably get 5% off of something.

This is not unusual for credit cards. Sometimes the request gets put in limbo because it is flagged as unusual activity, a human at the credit card company looks it over, and gives it the approval or disapproval (they call you when this happens). Happened to me ordering from budsgunshop.com. It actually isn't their fault. If you are making a large purchase in a new/random location, your credit/debit card company will probably freak out. Next time call ahead and tell them you are making a big purchase from whatever location, and not to worry about it.

Sounds like you're a victim of fraud protection from your bank :0

That's a good point, I didn't even think about that. The store did take ownership of the failure though, according to the op.

When I got home it showed both the 1500 and 150 charges pending. The two banks said the 3 charges were all approved, and would have been paid if the retail store system would have finished the transaction.

Mistakes happen man, stay cool. And why on earth, did you drive all the way down there without a backup plan? You could bring your check book, or go to a local bank branch and withdraw cash for it for example.

Given that they're willing to give you a discount, I'll say be nice and take the deal.

why didn't you call the banks while at the location and possibly get them on the phone to talk to the vendor to clarify the situation on the spot?

Ya, I would tell them to shove their piddley ammo discount and do a charge back. I don't go for the okie doke, even if I want something bad. I walked out of a store the other day and left approximately 10 items on the counter because the skank behind the counter was too busy chatting with her co-worker to ring my stuff up. Stand up for yourself. Everybody acts like lousy service is ok these days.
