    No wild animals aside from the occasional coyote, I've been shooting at this place and the same two dogs keep wandering over at some point during the day for free water and snacks, they appear well taken care of so I assume they come from a farm house miles away to say hello

      Happens at Chabot sometimes. I even made a reference to it happening when I wrote to the East Bay Regional Park regarding the lease extension for the range. Target shooters at Chabot are a decent bunch - the range master and the range officers have not asked for a cease fire, the shooters did it on their own.

        A few months ago when my son and I were at the Los Altos range;
        A big freakin' doe came out right as we were going to start firing! The range master called a "stop-firng order" and one of range guys tried to chase the deer away - it just looked at him! All of us on the line were busting out laughing! After several attempts to chase the deer away, it just trotted off like nothing was going on!
        I still laugh when I think about it - dumb deer!!!

          I was shooting a KD Appleseed at Metcalf on the 200 yd range last year and a rabbit ran out on the range during timed firing. We called cease fire as soon as we saw him but he was already hit. He was obviously wounded and someone had to go down range and put him out of his misery.

            When the Coalinga range is green ,cattle graze on the range.Before the start of a match we shoe them off,then they may return during and then joke is ...not to shoot a moving aiming black!

              Had a herd of deer standing around when we were slinging lead out to 550 yards. They must of loved hearing the gong ring next to them..

                The biggest kicker was when I was there early one morning for USPSA. A 6-point buck was walking across the clays field, right as the hunter safety class was getting marched out to do the handling portion of the class. A dozen prospective new hunters walking right by the perfect first harvest.

                  I've seen deer walk across live ranges at many ranges in CA. Antelope can often be seen grazing at the NRA range in Raton, NM. I've seen ducks fly into the course of fire at Pacific Rod and Gun Club in SF. And, the list goes on. Wildlife moving onto a live range is extremely common. Why was this thread started?

                  Back in the late 80's I use to have to run the cattle off the smallbore silhouette range a at least once an hour while I was practising.

                      In Bay 1 at WEGC while I was doing some drills a few months back. They came up the front, left side while I was shooting and I held off for awhile until they came up behind my "firing line".

                        My guess is the OP, who hasn't been out shooting as much as you have, had never seen it happen before and wanted to share his experience and ask whether it was common.

                        That's my guess, anyway. There could be other reasons.

                            I've been shooting at outdoor ranges in the mountains for over 15 years and had yet to have an animal run into my crosshairs, just happened to have the camera rolling when it happened and wanted to share thats all [emoji33]

                              Feathered turkeys or some of the jerk-off's behind (and sometimes in front of) the firing line??
                              True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

                              Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

                                Rest assured there is plenty of wildlife to be seen at Spenceville... Two legged included.
