I sailed on ships world wide for 38yrs. We always had to be inoculated for various virus's and diseases. We either got the shots, or got off the ship and didn't have a job. Nobody cried about it.

That was when actual Americans were in charge.

Well....... was going to that informally, but needed to suss out who would be on board. There are many employees that have to report to offices, and then there is the Professional Services group that mostly works remote with some engineers traveling to client sites to service accounts. Healthcare and Government has threatened to pull contracts if all vendor employees are not vaccinated or do not have valid exceptions. In any case the travelers (of which I am one) would not be allowed to set foot on these sites, no exceptions. The bulk of the remote engineers are remote (again, me),so it's hard to connect informally and see who is thinking what. As it happens, my last project travel engagement was for all last year and the last turn-up is scheduled for December. Management values me, so they are sending someone else and transferring me from the implementation group to the design group..... purely remote.

So, fast forward to yesterday...... I networked with a few of my co-workers, and got the word informally that religious exemptions were issued just for the asking. No religious affiliation required, no official letterhead, no lengthy reasoned explanation or asking for accommodations. Just hit the web portal and ask. So, I gave it a try to see if it were true, and within 2 hours my request was approved by HR with no followup or questions asked. Turns out, out HR is seemingly rubber stamping any request they receive.

That's FANTASTIC NEWS! I'd be popping a bottle right about now if I were you. Or, blow thru a couple of boxes of ammo at the range in celebratory gunfire!

Congrats bigbossman, this is actually a prudent decision by your company and it's actually not uncommon. I feel sorry though for those that get the shots out of stupidity or lack of dignity.

Yeah. As a corporation, I can see how the need to protect their government and healthcare contract revenue results in acquiescing to the pressure those entities exert. Losing 30% of the revenue stream would probably cost more jobs than laying off recalcitrant employees, but issuing exemptions "at will" fills the gap pretty well - it retains intellectual resources and satisfies the Marxists..... for now, anyway.

I'll miss going on site and implementing, but to tell you the truth I'm pretty sick of living out of a suitcase. Sure - the Marriott points are great, but being away from home 8-9 days out of every month gets to wearing thin.

It's all about money. They're trying to preserve the revenue stream generated from government contracts. No vaccinated employees, no contract. And that means no money.
