Just wanted to add...have a Mav 88 myself and managed to find any parts you could want for a 12g for it and they fir/work great. Railed forend/pump, saddle style scope mount that uses the weapons' exsisting pins, folding stock, etc. Got it to have a cheap, beater "zombie" gun to teach the kids how to handle a shotgun and not worry about really anything. Have beat the hell out of it and it keeps on blastin. IMHO, for about 225 OTD with DROS and tax. It is probably the best cheap option you're gonna find.I have the maverick 88 20 inch 'security' model. It is a good gun. BIG5 sells them a couple times a year on sale. I got mine for 265 out the door.
It's not ideal for modification since there's cost-saving measures such as a sealed mag tube, no sling swivels or drill and tap for scope mount. but if you keep it stock or near stock it will work out great.- If you want mine...You better bring yours!!!! Support the fight for 2A rights!!!Comment

There are many nice pump shotguns but Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 will always be a good choice for a U.S.made shotgun with tons of inexpensive accessories. I've had great success with a hatsan escort 18" for throwing slugs and buckshot but longer barrels are impossible to find on their own and a no stock pistol grip is almost 80$ extra. I don't really plan in adding these modifications but it's notable to say that this shotgun, though serving it's purpose and being worth every penny, will not dress up like a Barbie doll like a Mossberg 500.

The Pardner Pump is more than a china clone 870. Its made by Remington /marlin/H&R .Excellent shotgun, I've put everything from birdshot to 3in magnum slugs and it feeds super reliably and has had Zero issues since I got it.Originally posted by TeddyBallgamemaybe I'm wrong, but, if a $50.00 investment can help me a bit, i'll just have to go a day without the hookers and blow to cover it

Basically it boils down to which one of them are on sale when you're ready to purchase lol."Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

Hermosa, when did you take your SG class and where? I used my Mossberg 500 ATP8 for all my student demonstrations while working at Front Sight and so did my predecessor Chuck Burnett.
OP, my professional opinion it does really matter what you get as it is a play/range gun, not a SD/HD weapon. Buy what you like and can afford.
Since it's not a serious social work gun figure out what it is you want to do with it and go from there.
If hunting or clays (skeet or trap) are your game(s) the Big 5 Mossberg Combo is hard to beat. My 500 combo cost $199 when I bought it. I've since worn the blue off most of the barrel and the receiver looks like hell, but it still works like a champ. So consider the Mossberg 500 combo set....it's like getting two, two guns in one

Combo is nice but sadly it isn't $199 anymore. One of our members just got one I think it was $289 before taxes and fee's if I remember right. The Stevens and Hawk's are $199 if you can find one at sport's authority or big 5. Everything else is around the $280 mark. Though I think some maverick's are floating around at big 5 for $209. I agree the Combo is the best buy if a person had the money."Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

Another vote for the Hawk 982If you need help with any stragglers, call a friend, because it's likely that they have a gun. America in particular have done exceptionally well taking care of the problem, as there are 1.12 guns for every 1 American citizen. So throw a rock, you'll probably hit a gun, pick up that gun, then shoot a zombie.Comment

Amazing how many people like that Hawk once they get ahold of em. I also like the fact the safety is in the same spot as the 870. I had a Mossberg 500 years ago and hated the safety being on top of the receiver. Though like everyone has said it's a matter of what's on sale in your area. I would hit the Big 5's, Sport's Authorities and you local shops to see what's on sale. Also if you can afford it even though the safety sucks I think everyone agrees the Mossberg combo is probably the best deal overall.
