You can't go wrong with a Maverick 88 (or the "premium" Mossberg 500). I have two friends that own them and they work just as well as the Mossbergs we have in our group. I don't know for sure but I'd estimate they've been through well over a thousand rounds each, and they are still going strong. Some basic cleaning every few hundreds rounds or so and you're good to go.

EDIT: Another reason to buy Mavericks and/or Mossbergs is for the aftermarket stocks that can be installed. I have a Phoenix Technologies Field Series "M4 style" stock on my 500, and it works great. One of the nice things about that stock is that it is relatively cheap ($50-60 on Amazon), six position, has a rubber recoil pad, comes with a basic five round shell holder that attaches to the stock, and the stock can also be removed, leaving just the pistol grip. It gets good reviews too.

The Pardner Pump accepts all back-ends of an 870 kit (compatible: pistol, collapsible, etc.)...

It's a China 870-clone, on the back-end only AFAIK.

Pardner Pump is a great shotgun. I have owned one for about 2 yrs or more with over 500 rounds and it kicks ***. Sits next to my bed. Bought it for $189.99 at Big 5 on sale. Have put 2 3/4" shells and 3" magnum shells. I currently have an ATI top folding stock but I think I'm going back to the regular stock, feels much better.

I showed up to my first 4 day shotgun class with a mossberg 500 combo I purchased in college.

I was wondering if I would get any grief for having a cheap shotgun.

The instructor (also a member on Cal Guns) was also shooting a mossberg

It is the first gun that I shot to a point where it needed refinishing.

The mag tube worn shiny over the years.

I went with some brownells alumnahyde and all is well again.

I sold the heat shield and pistol only grip as they are useless in my opinion and also sold the 28" barrel.

So after the rebates ( selling the extra parts) it is one of the cheapest guns I own and one of my favorites.

I like my hawk 982 aswell. It has a nordic components +1 mag extension, that actually lets you put 2 more in the mag after all is said and done. It also have a bunch of rem 870 parts i bought on here from a armorer to make sure its 922r compliant.

I will eventually put a new stock on it cause when using the ghost ring sights, my right hand likes to hit me in the face.

I have a maverick 88 and I like it just fine. It's lighter than my 870 and more reliable right out of the box. I put a wood youth length buttstock on it and it handles well for me. I got the 20 in 8 shot version. +1 for the maverick.

I have also until just recently owned a stevens 350. You get a lot of gun for the what you pay. Built like a tank, bottom ejecting and the ghost ring sights are an added plus. The GRS are solid and those alone would cost you more than the price of gun to have them installed.

Stevens 320 is a descent gun. I got the pistol grip version with the ghost right sights and love it.

Just because something's made in Texas doesn't make it better sorry but /shrug. The hawk is head and shoulders above the Maverick imho. I also had a friend replaced the barrel on his 982 . The barrel needed a spacer but the bolt can be swapped with no issues.

What does just a standard Mossberg 500 run these days? Not the combo, just your standard non-pistol grip, nothing tactical or special...

I recommend the standard capacity 500 Home Defense. After owning pretty much every HD shotgun out there this is what I feel is the most efficient.
