Does your mossberg 500 shoot high too?

Just out of curiosity, I am wondering if anyone else's mossberg 500 shoots high?

With the 28" barrel, I am only a bit high, but with the 18" barrel, this thing seems like it would zero at 300 yards!

The stock doesnt fit me, and I see the barrel in my sight picture, but even if I bear down on the gun, I have to sink the bead (on the 18") so its not in my sight picture, and then I am dead on.

Just ordered a stock shim kit, and a lop extension, to fix my fit problems, and I also ordered a taller front sight bead, so hopefully my "fighting" shotgun will be on target soon

Interesting, when looking down the barrel, you're supposed to see only the bead, no barrel. Hope the shim works for ya.

gun dosent shoot high. shooter shoots high. and to get the right sight picture u should look at ur barrel as if its a leveler. cant see anything but the end of it..thats if its a ribbed barrel if its the other kind its harder for me to explain cuz i havent tried it

Nope. I rest the bead in the middle of the receiver grooves (so it looks like a ball bearing in a divot) then put the bead on the target. Boom. Patterns perfectly with birdshot and 00 buck.

About to receive some Brenneke Black Magic slugs for hiking in bear country. I'm not expecting any surprises, but I'll take a few boxes to the range before I actually carry in the wild.

              I assume you are tall?

The fact that it gets worse with a short barrel tells you that you are lifting the muzzle further then the designer intended. I do the same, because at 6'6" there is more neck between shoulder and eye then most people.

It takes practice to intentionally hold the gun a bit lower in my field of view. The alternative it to take up Yoga.

Since I use an ATI "Akita" stock (no pistol grip, adjustable) it helps a bit. I was also able to buy their 1/2" adapter to raise the gun up a bit closer to my eye. (it's an angled wedge between the stock and the receiver.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

If you are seeing a lot of barrel, try raising the butt on your shoulder. If you have to drop your head so far that it's uncomfortable I'd guess without meeting you in person that you are burying the stock too far down on your shoulder.

My 500 has always shot fairly flat regardless of barrel length, for what it's worth. I swapped out the 30 year old OEM furniture for a Boyd's American Plainsman set. The stock has a slight Monte Carlo that helps me get a good mount, but keep my head in a good orientation to the bead.

The fact that you shoot pretty good with the 28" barrel means you're mounting the gun decently. You gotta remember the 28" barrel has a rib on it and the rib raise your front bead up thus lowering you poi.

On the 18" barrel there are no ribs and the barrel is shorter and without a rib, putting your front bead lower on your line of sight thus shooting a higher poi ...

If I read this right, you are seeing the "ball bearing in the divot" or bead on the reciever. You say it shoot good with shot loads, but not with slugs, right?
Change brands of slugs! If you haven't tried other manufactures then you don't have a problem yet.
