Default SoCal shotgun Skeet Clinic info page, sign ups are on a different thread.

Please check on this thread >>> http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=751207 for availability of dates for the clinics.

PM Captain Dick (Richard) http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/member.php?u=68680 your contact info (name & phone #) to confirm a date. PLEASE REMEMBER THE DATES THAT YOU HAVE RESERVED!!!

Any group sign ups that have "No Shows" in their group will still be responsible for paying for the "No Shows". Any cancellations made less than one week prior to the scheduled Clinic will still be responsible for paying for that spot/spots, if another shooter does not fill it/them. The sole purpose of this requirement is to prevent open spots that shooters that want to attend would have filled, if they had been given more notice of the opening...

Interested in breaking some clays? Getting frustrated when you go out to shoot clays? Now you can join our Calguns skeet clinic and learn how to dust some clays. We can arrange for some cool skeet lessons at Triple B Clays http://www.triplebclays.com/ in El Monte/SoCal. In this clinic you will learn the basics of handling your shotgun in skeet shooting. There will be explainations and hands on instructions on how to make those little spinning orange clays break. This skeet clinic will transition well to other form of clays shooting. This clinic will include: safe handling and basic fitting/mounting of the shotgun, basic concepts and understanding of clays shooting, body and foot placement. We will instruct you the concepts of skeet shooting with simple proven techniques. By the end of the day you'll know the basic skills needed to start or further your clays shooting career!

This clinic isn't limited just for the skeet beginners! We have attendees from all ranges of experience in shotgunning. We can help figure a particular problem or just plain brush up on stuff. But most importantly we reset all the fundamentals that may have been lost or gotten fuzzy years ago!!! It'll be $30 for 4 to 6 hours of group lessons, make sure you can stay until 2-3:00pm open for the clinic to get maximum benefit. Sometimes we'll stay later then that! We have too many students bailing out at lunch. The regular Triple B range charges will apply. You'll need a gun, but we can arrange for a loaner. You are responsible to obey & comply with all laws!!

Coach Don Ziegler is responsible for 17, 20, 22 23 NSSA Rookie All Americans ... There are many other Rookie World Champions, Zone Champions, State Champions, All Americans, All Zones & All State shooters he trained and coached before. Coach Ziegler and the clinic are all about bringing new shooters to the game, so he will hold as many clinics as I can sign up for him. Most skeet coaches will charge anywhere between $200 to $450 per person for their half day group lessons. So this clinic is not about making money. It is designed to bring new shooters into the game with good solid instructions and minimum cash. I am making the clinic in groups of 8 to 10.

Our other coaches includes:
Captain Dick (Richard), who is a Certified Sporting Clays instructor also. So any Sporting Clays questions can be directed to him.
Me bjl333 (Jordon), A regular of the clinic for 11 years or so and one of Coach Don's First Team All American. (Due to my work schedule I will not be assisting in teaching as much as Richard.)

Here what you'll need for the day - We'll meet at 8:00am on weekends and 9:15am on weekdays. Go to field #10 or look for the Calguns Banner. We will instruct you on how to sign up with Triple Bs. Most students will need to buy 2 rounds of skeet from the pro-shop to start, they will charge you a $20 deposit for a target key. The deposit will be returned to you when you return the target key. Ammo is available in the pro-shop if you didn't bring any.

1) Shooting glasses and ear plugs.
2) Some kind of shell holder for your waist. Cargo pants would work also!
3) $9.00 per round of skeet, 3-4 rounds is about max for a beginner. But most will stop at 2-3 rounds.
4) $10 bucks to buy lunch at the Cafe or you can bring your own lunch. Bring/buy drinks to keep from dehydrating. Their Cafe is pretty good.
5) $30/person for coach.
6) You will need one of 3 choke tube in your gun. CYL, SKT, IC should be good for your first lesson. If you have a LM, M, IM, LF, F, XF please leave them at home.
7) A cap/hat and some suntan lotion would help also. Avoid big hats that is too low and will block your vision.
8) If you need a gun or two, let me know ahead of time. I will arrange for something to shoot with.
9) Please bring your ID/DL for age verification.
10) Please bring a CAMERA !!! So I could capture your fun in the sun! Lately I have been very busy at work so please bring a camera when you attend the clinic to help with some photos!!

Weekends are better, but a Friday afternoon is a possibility. How about Saturday, September 4th?

Skeet is a blast! I tried it one time in WA and a few times down here and I just keep improving. I have a bad habit of shooting target on the decline as opposed to the apex.

Depending on when I could be in for it. Triple B's is close to me and I've always wanted to try skeet. I would definitely need a loaner gun.

Saturday would be best for me (work eats up M-F).

On most Sundays I shoot with a club I belong to called SSA. We have a program called Steel Madness. I shoot it with my modified XD pistol. There are a number of people out there that are very good pistol shooters who have taught me a lot. If anyone want details let me know.

I am a total nube to the shotgun sports. If I pick it up at all like I did pistol shooting, I should do well and have a great time. I just need to meet the right people and make sure I put some time into it. I have wanted to do this for a while. I am excited that so many calgunners are interested.

I'm glad to see new shooters coming into our sport, welcome.

If anybody wants to shoot some sporting clays after you shoot skeet, let me know.

What's the difference? The direction they travel in? Turners has clays on sale should I stock up?

On a serious note, skeet is a game of repeatable target presentations. Every skeet field in North America is set up exactly the same.

They all have two machines that throw targets. There's one on the left of the field called "the high house", and one on the right of the field called "the low house".

There are seven shooting stations in a semi circle from the high house to the low house, and an eighth in the middle.

The target's flight path never changes, the only thing that changes is the position from where you shoot them.

25 birds makes one round. Do not bring your own clay targets to TBC, you won't be able to shoot them.

Sporting clays is a game of ever changing target presentations. Much like every golf course in America is different, so is every sporting clays course.

A sporting clays course typically has anywhere from 10 to 25 stations (shooting positions). TBC has 25, and each of them has a different target presentation.

In addition just because station one has an incoming target and a crosser today, doesn't mean it will be the same next week.

The best advice I can give is to shoot a round of trap, then a round of skeet, then a round of sporting clays and see which one you like.

Brad, I hope you'll be able to come out whenever the lesson is scheduled.

My skeet performance is downright embarassing, I need all the help I can get.

Sporting clays is a little more complicated for the beginning clays shooter IMO. I do shoot sporting clays occasionally and I think skeet will help transition to sporting clays easier.
Come out to shoot some skeet and see if you like shooting at moving targets first ...

Joking, joking.

Here are some good primers for both trap and skeet:

A standard "trap field" has one machine and five shooting positions, and you shoot 25 birds in a round.

A standard "skeet field" has two machines and eight shooting positions, and you shoot 25 birds in a round.

There no such thing as a standard sporting clays course. SC courses usually have anywhere from 10 to 25 stations (shooting positions) with two to three machines at each station, and you shoot 50 or 100 birds in a round.

At two to three thousand dollars per machine, you can see the difference in cost for a trap field and a sporting clays course.

Also to shoot 100 birds of sporting clays you might wanna bring about 150 rounds of ammo because you can take 2nd shots on birds.

As Brad mentioned the cost of shooting sporting clays is a bit more then skeet/trap. But I think all should be tried to test for preference.

BTW nice illustrations there Brad !!!

Actually you can only load two shells at a time, so on a true pair (skeet double) you only have one shot on each bird. You do need a few extra rounds incase of a "no bird" on the second bird.

True, a round of 100 costs about $45.

I'm in as well! I've been wanting to take some skeet lessons for a while now.

For now its just me, but I will talk to my gf and see if she can make it as well. Is there space for her?

I have my own gun as well.
