From what I understand they're made with some higher quality parts. Can't tell ya which. I would opt for the police model if you can afford it.RKBA Clock: soap box, ballot box, jury box, cartridge box (Say When!)

^^^ This ^^^
The 870 is the 870 is the 870. Wingmaster, Express, Police.... they are all the same gun at the core they differ only in fit, furniture and finish. The Police model uses a milled steel extractor rather than MIM and there are a couple of springs inside that are different. The Police model is built on a controlled line in a secure facility within the plant. The Police model will set you back a couple of hundred dollars more than most other 870s but other than the cachet of the name, the finish and a couple of parts, it's an 870.
If you want to have a tacticool gun and blast stuff, that's okay. If you want to have a gun that can be used to shoot clays or put game on the table, you can get that. Shotguns are extremely versatile platforms and, if you get into reloading, can be incredibly cheap to shoot.Last edited by BigDogatPlay; 01-25-2012, 4:21 PM.

For price, http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...GA+18+BD+IC+PK
or look for an 870 Police in the Marketplace.
For exact differences, see below. The poster of that video basically says that the Express is great, and the Police is just a beefed up version. If that matters to you, then go for it. If you'd rather save the money, don't.

were do you find the police trade in 870's? Any in SD or LAComment

so big5 has mosberg500 combo(two barrels) for $260
jesus christ, it's like 1/4 the price of my 1911.
What can you guys tell me about mosberg?
Why do you prefer them over remington 870s and bennellis novas? (except for the price) Can I mall ninja the mosberg 500 a little?Молон Лабе

Benelli Nova, Mossy 500, Rem 870, Browning BPS.. all nice introductory level shotguns.. of the four, I own all but the Benelli.. all are pretty much beaters.. and they simply work.
The Mossy 500 with the two barrels is kind of nice, the one issue I have with the 500 is that whatever mag tube you have, that's all you will ever have.. there is no way to install an extended mag tube later.. You can with the 870, the BPS, and I think you can with the Nova.. it has to do with how the barrel mounts to the receiver.
The field division in my upcoming shotgun match is based on the Mossberg 500's 5+1 capacity.Comment

There are tons of threads here about Mossberg 500 vs. 870. Search up a few of those and you'll see lots of opinions. That said I have owned several 870s over the years of different types, all kinds of Remington shotguns. I'm a Big Green kind of guy.... and one of my favorite shotguns in the safe is a 30 or so year old Mossberg 500. I have a couple of different barrels for it.
You can tacticool a Mossberg as much or as little as you like.
The Big 5 combo.... on the sporting barrel it is a fixed Modified choke. That will work for a variety of purposes but if you wanted to get deeper into clays or hunting a barrel capable of taking choke tubes is a must. Extra Mossberg barrels are usually pretty reasonable cost wise if you shop around a tad.
Actually there is a way and it can be DIY. Brownells sells a kit with a different mag tube and barrel to get you to 7 +1 shots. The Mossy 500 with the two barrels is kind of nice, the one issue I have with the 500 is that whatever mag tube you have, that's all you will ever have.. there is no way to install an extended mag tube later.. You can with the 870, the BPS, and I think you can with the Nova.. it has to do with how the barrel mounts to the receiver.

that is basically swapping the magtube and barrel to the next model up.. unlike the other guns where you can put a +6 tube on an 870 and get 10+1 fairly quickly.. Like I said, of the four I suggested, I own three of them... the first sg I bought was a big-5 mossy combo from a friend.. only then they offered the hunting barrel with choke tubes..Comment

man, that kinda sucks that mosberg has only 5+1 capacity
but man, I don't wanna sell one of my handguns so I can buy an expensive one, that $260 combo is a such a great deal..
ah! I hate how i love guns.Молон Лабе

Mossberg's have a little bit more play in the forend. Some people are really annoyed by it, but I don't mind mine. If you have a pistol grip, you won't really be able to use the safety easily. I have a Hogue 12" LOP on mine and I love it over two different tactical pistol grips I tried.
You can mall ninja the 500 to the max. Just check out the shotgun picture thread I linked. One thing to be aware of is the Big 5 special. Sometimes they will have a Maverick 88 forend which is plastic directly molded onto the action tube bars, meaning you can't put any aftermarket forend on it.
As for the capacity, you can go for a 590A1 or any Mossberg that has this kind of mag tube cap (see below) and that will allow you to put an extension on it. If you get a Nordic Components +1 extension (which is one of the highest quality ones) and get an extended cap, it should put the extension right about the end of the barrel, and you should be able to barely squeeze two more rounds in, putting you at 7+1. However, that will run you around $110 IIRC.

Thought kills action...
Go for the mossberg combo, it's a solid platform, can be used for HD and for bustin' clays, all at a reasonable cost....and with the money saved you can get a bunch of shells for trigger time
