Kel-Tec KSG

Anyone have any new "good" information on the KSG?

I think I probably have the most up to date information but thought I would check here to see if anyone had anything differant.

I contacted Kel-Tec a few weeks and asked about availability in California. They responded and said they only sell to wholesalers so I would need to contact a local firearms dealer. And they told me I should get on a list soon.

So I contacted the place I normally purchase guns from and he told me good luck, everything he has heard is they will not be available in California.

So I contacted another gun shop (which will by the looks of it be my new gun shop I will probably stop dealing with the previous one). And the guy at the new place told me that yes they will be available in California, he put me on a list and quoted me a price of $680.00

He told me that his wholesalers have told him by the end of this year is when they will be available, but he was also told (as we all know) that Kel-Tec has a rep for not releasing products on time. He said one of their product releases was a year behind schedule.

So anyway, bottom line is as far as I know I am on a list and as soon as they start becoming available I will go down and put me deposit on one.

Anyone know anything different? Or does this sound about right?

Given that the KSG has not yet been released, not a lot of "real" info... But multiple threads on this, at least here, here and here...

Kel-tec says it will be released end of the year, so expect it around March, 2014.

I think it's fun to look at, but I just don't see the practical purpose of this gun.
Other than looking like a space marine, I guess it just seems overpriced for an HD shotgun that will sit in a safe for the rest of my life? It doesn't serve any other purpose very well. I was excited about it initially, but I have sort of gone "meh" in the meantime.

That being said, They ARE going to be available in California, Turner's took preorders on them for some time, and is holding deposits. The price you were quoted sounds about right, if I recall, maybe a bit lower than Turner's.

I like mine a lot, but it has all of the updates minus the choke adapters. I didn't think it'd matter at the time; I just wanted the gun.

Does Kel-Tec make anything good?

I have a few SU-16's

I thought I liked them until they started jamming on me and then someone on this board said it is a known problem and you have to polish the bottom of the bolt.

Then I noticed in the Nutanfancy video it seemed like the KSG jammed a few times.

Until I actually see a KSG at my local EBR emporium, it's vaporware. Something Kel-Tec has been good at over the years.

At the risk of a thread jack, the SU-16 is a very capable rifle. A guy I know took a patrol rifle class with his SU-16 and had zero failures while others shooting department and personally owned ARs all had > 0 failures.

Kel-Tec can get it right, but the KSG is so much of a departure that it begs the notion that it might be wise to wait for version 1.1.....

OP, I believe that's where things stand right now. It's what I was told last time I enquired about my pre-order at Turners. Good price, I think my pre-order was for $720.

Kel-Tec is a small manufacturer and does not have the capabilities to make all their firearms at once or in vast numbers.
They appear to make them in batches.
Hence the reason why many of their products are slow to reach all consumer markets.

Recent update -

I called Turners in Orange County.

the guy said they have on order 200 KSG's that they are expecting the end of October.

They have taken deposits on 230 of them. They are not taking any more deposits until the first batch arrives.


Just thought I would pass this on to everyone.
