More than likely I will end up with an 870 and make a few changes to it. LOP is one, the forearm seems far away. Just found out Hogue makes different LOP stocks, or just cut the stock down. I also hate pistol grips on shotguns.
So who has a good selection of shotguns in Southern CA, I live in Temecula but will drive.

i would say get the M4. I have run training classes with M4s 870s and M1s. I actually find the weight to be an asset as it stays on target better when I am pushing heavy loads through it. I have found the both the M4 and the M1 to be absolutely reliable with everything from trap loads to full power slugs. I also do have a soft place in my heart for 870s as I cant count the number of rounds I have put through mine. however when I get around to buying my next tactical shotgun it will defiantly be an M4.
      hope this helps

HA, I thought of stopping there but went to Growers Ranch and bought vegetables instead, always one of my must stops when going back. Just been in this area since about Oct. . Sure was convenient living in NB, but I can shoot on my property now. Neighbors in NB would have **** just seeing my toys.

I'm pretty much sold on the M4 now, unless someone can make a good case that the FN SLP is a better gun.

All I would add is that the SLP has the benefit of being able to swap in a longer barrel, also more suitable for 3-gun if you so desired

I checked out every commonly available semi auto and ended up with this http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=345860
I actually liked the SBE II the most, but think this worked out best for me. Also comes in a PG if you like that. Good luck!

I love the arguements over the weight also thoes are great. If you realy have a hard time carrying a M4 I live in sacramento and teach a cardio/conditioning class at a local MMA gym feel free to stop in and you will laugh at the rest of the guys saying they are to heavy

Those guys really should take you up on it

I would like to thank everyone for their input and let you all know that I have ordered the Benelli M4. I just got an update on the status, and it is listed as "Shipping".

                  Again, thank you all.

                  P.S.
Any good places to get the extended magazine tube?

First, don't forget about making your M4 922r compliance. And as for the magzine tube:

I have the Dave's Metal Work one, a solid piece at a good price.

And if budget allows, get Kip's Benelli M4 7-rounds Titanium magazine tube, because it is a beautiful piece of art, even it usually has long waiting list on it.

                        Regards,

for a full length mag tube, support a fellow M4-aholic Californian and buy from Freedom Fighter Tactical - they make some fantastic parts and are a joy to work with.

What do I have to do to make it 922R compliant? How can it be sold through a CA FFL if it it does not already comply with the law?

                            Thanks

Am I insane to be willing to spend so much on a home/personal defense weapon that cannot be used to hunt? I am new to guns in general, and have just started aquiring them in the last few months.

I like the idea of an auto loader, and from what I have read, the M4 is the most reliable of all of the semi automatics.

The money is not really an issue, if I am getting good value, but I am not into spending foolishly.

                              Any advice would be appreciated.
What makes you think a full sized Super Nova would not make an outstanding home/personal defense weapon?

I think the tacticool stuff is just a bit overrated. I don't think 18.25" barrels, and dual pistol grips save many people.

In a nutshell, the usual 'home defense version' Benelli M4s that sold new through dealers are came from factory with 4+1 shots capacity. Only if we plan to make it, for example, capable for 7+1 shots; then we would need to make sure it is 922r compliant with the right amount of imported parts on it.

Checkout the BenelliUSA's own forum, just search for 922r and it will return many informative information.
