    Seriously considering a Benelli M4

As the title says, I am thinking very seriously about ordering one of these. Since it is a tactical shotgun, it's use would be home and personal defense. I would probably also get a full size Super Nova in case I ever need to shoot something to eat.

I am attempting to prepare myself and my family for the possible home invasion, or Heaven forbid societal collapse. I am not however one of those guys
Am I insane to be willing to spend so much on a home/personal defense weapon that cannot be used to hunt? I am new to guns in general, and have just started aquiring them in the last few months.

I like the idea of an auto loader, and from what I have read, the M4 is the most reliable of all of the semi automatics.

The money is not really an issue, if I am getting good value, but I am not into spending foolishly.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

It's too heavy! My friend has the m4 and m2, he loves his m2 and hates the m4. I feel the same.

i like my m4, however you should consider the m2 if you want the option for both the short and longer barrel.

Its a great semi-auto shotgun. Sometime won't cycle the winchester birshot from walmart. The LOP is long. I forgot which company makes aftermarket stock that is shorter. And its a bit heavy. I enjoy shooting it a lot.

m4 is an awesome gun, you cant go wrong with it. if you think its heavy, try hitting the gym. its not like its 30 lbs and even if it was, its only 30 lbs! unless your some kinda girl (and I think even a girl could handle it) you have no excuse.

Mesa Tactical makes the Urbino stock for the M4.

They are really nice shotguns, the gas system makes for a very soft shooting shotgun. You could shoot full power loads out of an M4 all day long. An M2 will punish you for running full power loads!

I believe that legally, you can't put the extended magazine on this gun. Import requirements. Although everyone seems to.

I've got an M4 and an M2 (and a Remington 870 and a few other boomsticks, just for comparison's sake). I really like the M4 - mine cycled everything from light target loads to reduced recoil slugs from day 1. I think it's a fantastic shotgun and I really enjoy it. That said, if you are new to firearms, I'd suggest some time behind a shotgun (both a pump and an auto) to see what works for you. On 3-gun stages I shoot my 21" M2 MUCH better than the M4 - I'd never have known this if I didn't try both.

I agree, it would be really good to shoot both before buying.

Initially I thought the M4 must be the best because that's what the military chose but after shooting them I have strong preference for the M2.

Good gun. Take a look at the FN SLP. It's a good gun for a lower price

I understand that price is not an issue, but why not get the FN and use the extra funds for ammo or other guns? I have shot the M4 plenty of times but I'm much happier with my FN SLP Mk1. Try both guns and see which one you like better.

agree with this. whatever your financial situation may be, make sure there is enough money left over to feed the gun and train with it...otherwise it just becomes a very pretty and expensive club/paperweight.

Might as well put those parts on a better shotgun -- like an old Benelli M1.

Thanks for your input guys. I will look into the FN SLP. I really like the idea of interchangeable barrels.
