Saiga 12 issue

I shot my s12 today for the first time and could not get it to eject the shells. I adjusted what I believe to be the gas adjustment on the front on top of the barrel but it would still jam w the semi ejected shell. I was using birdshot. Any suggestions??? Thank you

Break it in with slugs on setting 1.

Throw in some shells with at least 1 1/4 ounce or like the other guy said break it in with some heavy buckshot or birdshot.

Don't use that, the hull are too soft and collapse upon extraction.

All of the ideas suggested so far in the thread may help with your issues, however, many of the Saiga shotguns still have issues from the factory that are not cured by break-in or better shells. You may be missing gas ports, the gas block may be mis-alligned, etc. I can help you verify proper porting and allignment if you would like.

The first 200 rounds or so the shotgun will jam almost every shot. You have to break in the gas system, it is highly recommended you cycle high base rounds such as buck shot or slugs (hand cycling may help also). The lightest recommended load is 7 1/2 anything else will have issues even on broken in shotguns. If you buy some aftermarket gas system parts you could cycles the 200 round wally world pack ammo. Sadly, most retailers don't even know how to check for these problems....and none of the distributors/importers check for these issues either.

Everyday we receive gun from people that can't get it to cycle and it is missing ports, etc.

Am I missing one gas port? I only have three. According to someone from another forum the older ones have four and the newer ones have three.
I'm at 150 rnds of slugs and planning to shoot some more.

Nope, new guns are shipping with 3 ports, and older guns had 4....2....1....0 They were very inconsistant. One of the biggest problems lately is the hole/vent in the gas block is not alligned with the gas ports in the barrel, so they are blocked and therefore cannot vent properly. We have to remove the gas block to fix the issue.

I will add "three UNOBSTRUCTED holes". If the gas block is covering a portion of the gas port, it ususally causes problems.

Try shooting slugs to see if you still have that problem. If you got a "vodka" special it will still be a problem even with slugs. If not, then just break it in with 3in slugs for a while.

You can also change out the recoil spring, gas knob and plug.
