A handgun is a secondary weapon.
Maybe for hitting a static target 10-15y away.

If you're trying to track your target in tight quarters or moving around your house, not so much.

But what do I know, I dont sell shotgun products and the only CQB training I have included frags, C4, detcord and full-autos

To answer your question as what do you know, I would have to be rude. Let's just say that many confuse home defense with combat. Tracking an intruder around my house is simply not a part of my HD plan, which is to defend the family until the police arrive. For anyone to clear a dwelling, and especially in the dark and without assistance, is a fools erand IMO.

As for hitting static targets, part of my practice consists of hitting flying 6" clay discs at distances between 20 and 45 yards.

Back to the question, the difference between the two...Well on a pump you have to jerk-it before it goes off/fires, on the Auto it just go's off!/fires on it's own.... Both will get the job done...

I've always been rather skeptical of the, "pump is more reliable than the semi auto" premise. I've seen too many pump guns jam and get short stroked to believe that it's an absolute.

We also trust our lives to semi auto handguns, so why not semi auto shotguns? Like a handgun, however, the semi auto shotgun needs to be proven reliable. If I can put several hundred rounds through it without incident, I'm comfortable using it for home defense.

Go with what you like. Prove it to be realiable. Train like crazy with it. You'll be good to go.

I have a pump but I've shot hundreds if not thousands through it. I prefer by Benelli M1S90 for my hunting and I've shot thousands of rounds through it but she can have issues but those have only been from my not keeping her clean.

I vote pump only because I don't trust any mag fed or tube mag fed firearm in a life or death situtation.

I don't even trust my Moss 500 pump to fire when I pull the trigger because sometimes it doesn't fire, though I think it's because the saftey is a POS that needs to be upgraded or removed alltogether.

I only rely on revolvers or maybe a double barrel.

I feel comfortable with my semi auto scatter gun for HD! BUT, she has been tested and proven with my HD loads.

I have an 870, an 870 clone and a single shot break open New England arms 12 gauge which I have only put 10 rounds through. I don't know if you saw my thread on 12 gauge adapters. I ordered two, not from this site but another.

Charge a semi auto and you get close to the same sound, so what are you going to do, go out to face the Posse with an empty chamber???????? Ride the bolt home slowly on that semi and you may not get lock up and nothing happens when you pull the trigger and the Posse is going to get you.

99.9% of the time when someone enters your home they are there to steal and thought you were not home. Simply turning on a light and calling out will send them running. Calling out "I am armed" then rack the pump "And on the phone with the Police, get out of this house NOW" will get that other .1% diving out the window. Stop watching so much TV and movies and deal with the subject with some common sence.
You keep on racking, I'll keep on shooting and lets see who comes out on top of a fire fight! some times when people break into your house its not to steal, its to kill and rape you. sure lots of people do break in to steal but not always and I dont wanna find out why they broke in to my house, I just wanna protect myself. personnaly, I'm not pretending I'm a badass like you when you stand in the middle of a hall way while starting to rack away shells while yelling like a girl. I mean why not start to yell "I dont know you, that's my purse!"

p.s. where in the heck are you getting your statistics from? just to let you know they are totally wrong at best!

Then perhaps a handgun is for you.

Very few people who procure firearms for personal defense undergo anything besides the most minimal of training, if even that. The longer sight radius of a shotgun makes it a far more reliable personal defense weapon for most people than a handgun.

It is often instructive to take people, even experienced shooters, out to a desert location where high adrenaline situations can be loosely simulated and watch how difficult it is for them to hit, with a handgun, man-sized targets at ranges of 12 feet or beyond. Empty the magazine, no bullet holes on the cardboard, let alone the silhouette. Happens a lot, and that's in broad daylight.

On the other hand, no one misses with a shotgun (due to the sight radius).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if an auto jams or misfeeds don't you just pull back the charging handle to feed another round? (essentially turning it into a pump action lol)

I think the same argument for people choosing pump over auto shotguns applies for people who prefer revolvers instead of auto when it comes to a concealed handgun.
