I have the lock on. I put it after what you guys said, I carry both keys with me so no one can unlock while I'm not home. I'm painting the hooks all black soon so they don't look that fugly, I don't even like orange. lol

At least put it in the closet, mounted up high out of plain sight from everyone.

No offense to OP, but if there are other adults in the house, like your parents, shouldn't they be the gun keepers? I know your technically an adult, but there's no way in hell I'd let my 19 year old kid hang a shotgun on the wall in his room, ESPECIALLY with really young kids around. Where are your parents, and why aren't they showing you how to be a responsible gun owner?!?!? no offense kid, your just not getting off to a good start...being a gun owner means being safe and responsible with your firearms, being a good role model with your firearms, and keeping them out of reach of kids. Even with a lock, they could still get it down and play with it....NOT A GOOD IDEA!!! Save your money for a safe, not pretty looking guns.

Parents have no say in this. I work, I get my own money, Buy my own stuff, Therefor I get to do it however I want.

I'm not ignoring what you're saying, Trust me I'm taking it into thought however, The kids go to school, That's a couple of hours of safety in the morning, When they get out, I'm here. They don't LIVE here they're just here most of the time, Outside playing, The only time they're really here is when I'm home which I have supervision of what they do.

My room only has 2 keys, I carry mine with my car keys and the gunlock and my parents have one for an emergency. Once my sister gets out of work, They go to her house (that's around 6-7pm) so there's only a 4-5 hour window, But they'd still have to find the key which is hidden. I don't know what the chances are for them to even come in my room.

Oh and also, I'm sorry I wasn't born in the 60's or 70's Like it was my choice to be born in the 90's >_>

I'm 19 but personally I wouldn't want anyone knowing there's a shotgun in my room. I'd at least make an effort to keep it concealed. I live with my mom so i showed her how to use it and she's the only other person who has the key for the lock just in case I'm not home and she needs it. Leaving it out in the open is just too risky.

              *going a bit off topic*

I listened to my parents when they asked me to put it away in my closet... So I did and went to work.... I came back and my mom had put some blankets and stuff I left in the living room, The shotgun has 2 major scratches. *sigh* this is why I wanted it hanging in the first place... only I get to touch it. Now I have to live with 2 scratches.

You guys don't know how my mind functions, I know I'm not like you guys I'm sorry I can't be.... It is what it is huh?

You underestimate the skill and perserverance of kids who are sneaky. Sooner or later all the neighborhood kids will know that you have a gun "just hanging" on the wall. Please lock that thing up in a fixed container of somekind or maybe something like this http://www.fleetsafety.com/setina-ve...n-rack-lock-56
The term is negligent, it means careless; please show more care with firearms. A locked door isn't much these days. JMO

So put it on hooks in the closet, straight up above the door. It won't get scratched (with a lock).

Besides the safety issue with your nephews, I suggest that you read section 12035 of the California Penal Code. If something happens because your shotgun was "mounted on the wall" you could be facing criminal charges.

                          RAC Lock

Take a look at this lock: http://www.raclocked.com/

I have my mossberg locked horizontally above a shelf in my closet. This lock mounts very securely with 2 lag bolts. You can mount it vertically with the butt on the floor, if your closet isn't an option.

The price is right (down to 29.95 on sale), and the design works for long guns or handguns. Check it out!
I love it when a plan comes together.

Don't underestimate your Nephew's ability to get into stuff.
They have two brains and four hands between them. Enough to get into a serious jam.

I think, if he wants to keep a shotgun on the wall, that is just fine. The community hoods should be a worry though, any kid really...

If you get a good lock on there and keep any spare key off premises I think you'd be good. Though I would take the precaution of keeping ANY ammunition out of reach of chillins while you're gone. Children may be "crafty" that is true, but they are not break in artists, and IMO some of yall are giving them TOO much credit. It's a locked room, gun mounted on hooks where it is difficult to take it off, and gun lock (again assuming any spare keys are off premises), It's pretty safe.

This is exactly what's wrong with our country...

You work, you make money... blah blah blah... you live in someone else's house with Children. Quit trying to be a cool rambo and be a responsible gun owner, if CPS saw this situation they would likely take the kids out of the situation.. You give the rest of the gun owners out there a bad reputation AND you're putting your family at risk.
