It is not a fake, that is how one would look. I have pictures on a Remington Resource disk they give us and it has several pictures that look like this. Even has the one from the idiot that reloaded his own ammo I was talking about.

Looks just like the one my uncle plugged full of mud some years back DUCK HUNTING. Standard 2 3/4 low base was shot and kerplow.... No crazy explosion or nothing.
Why is everything good???? Illegal, Immoral, fattening???

Then mythbusters don't know what they are doing. I got it from the horses mouth and saw the barrels and have pictures of one. Anyone with the Remington Law Enforcement armoers disk has those pictures. They were also displayed in class and the facts of each barrel covered. I will believe the Remington Instructor with 42 years in at that factory before I believe some TV show.

Because the barrel falure was at the end - I would guess Mudd or Snow in Barrel or reload misshap. The 20 gauge round usually burst the chamber as pictured above.

I will try and find the picture of the barrel that BIRD caged. Riped open in 5 strands - muzzel section intack.

The modern barrel are designed to peel open like a banana - my Uncle still has scars from a damasscuss barrel that grenaded on him. Wood splinters will get infected also.

                  I would spike demill it.

Drill a 1/4" holes through both chamber walls and drive a 1/4" x 6" rodd throught the chamber - wrapp the excess rodd around barrel and weld into place.

All you need is some one trying to shoot this tube - AS IS - and try to send the seller the Wiskey and Vet bill.

If I remember correctly, Mythbusters packed the muzzle full of mud, snow and all sorts of other crap and while it would slightly bulge the muzzle, nothing even close to the above, the best result they got was from welding a metal plug into the barrel. As far as I know they never tried to shoot rounds that had the wrong type of powder/ just plain improperly reloaded. To me it looks like even if the shooter had the barrel split, it had some help afterwards in getting such a dramatic appearance.

But take that with a grain of salt, I don't know much when it comes to shotguns.

It looks like a Hollywood prop for a bad comedy. But wait.... These days, they're almost ALWAYS bad comedies.

Hmm. If the barrel is still operable, but has shortened due to the peel effect, wouldn't that become constructive possession of an SBS?
