    Blown barrel FS on EBAY

This 870 barrel is currently offered for sale on EBAY for $225.00 . What would cause such a failure, a total or partial blockage? Do you suppose the shooter was injured? Looks like a Fool choke to me.

I figure since it's an 870 barrel Aippi would know?

Only one reason. The barrel was plugged. The shooter could have gotten a face full of steel shrapnel. They have a few like this that they show us at the factory. One was because the owner happended to be a novice reloader. He decided to use some left over handgun poweder and rifle powder and mix it. The force was so great it budlged the reciever. The breech bolt blew back into it. That solid steel receiver saved his life and if he would have had an aluminum receiver he may have been killed. He lost most of his left hand and they grafted it to his stomach for months. They took a toe and made him a thumb.

Of course he tried to sue Remington. They blew up over 20 barrels till they were able to duplicate the damage and of course they had video of this. Showed the video to the guys attorney and the case was dropped.

As for the picture you posted. A blocked bore makes a shotgun barrel a pipe bomb. That is the best way to describe what I am seeing but I can't tell much and could not even tell that was a barrel at one time. If it sells for $225 I am going to blow up some of these 18.5" matte barrels I have and start selling on E-bay instead of Gun Broker.

Damn before you do that what would it cost to relive you of one of your unwanted 18.5 870 barrels?

The guy states in his add that he shot at a duck and heard a "funny sound" and then saw the barrel like this. I don't buy that story one bit. This is an Elmer Fudd model for sure.

Duck loads did that! HAHA, yea whatever. He figures he can sell his completely useless barrel for enough change to get a brand new one with a selection of chokes.

That right there, gentlemen, was caused by a rabbit's index finger obstructing the muzzle.

Why not duck loads.Steel shot is a lot harder then lead and some shells are loaded are hotter for the longer distance. It looks like it got plugged with mud or something and blow apart at the weakest point the screw in choke.I'm not to sure if just shooting steel shot out of a barrel not made to shoot steel shot would do that all by it self?

                          it's not fake, that happens.

usually it's a load malfunction, either someone shooting a 20gauge round out of their 12, and then following up with a 12 - called a 12/20 burst. These are extremely dangerous.

also, an improperly loaded shell, one that doesn't push the shot/wad/whatever all the way down the barrel. On the next shot, bad things happen.

nope, that's pretty much what a barrel looks like when it's split open!

Don't ever get mud in your barrel. But it does look pretty hokey. I've seen two that were blown and they both had a bulge and split a hole in the side of a barrel. This looks like a peeled banana..
