Use for a single shot shotgun?

    Hello CalGunners!

    3 years ago, I inherited a Winchester 37 12 gauge and a Browning A5 from my Grandfather.

I don't know what good the Winchester is, to me.

    I'm not a hunter.
It's not nearly as much fun to shoot as the Browning.
It's probably not the best for home defense (I'm still looking for a pistol grip for it).
I can't use it to shoot rattlesnakes in my back yard.
My daughter isn't even 2, so she's not quite ready for it.
We all know Zombies don't go down in 1 shot, and in the dark, with Zombies all around, I'm kind of slow at reloading it.

Honestly, the coolest thing about it is shooting it, breaking it open, and having the shell casing come flying out leaving a smoke trail.

So, what's the use for a single shot, for a person like me?

    Thanks,

    Todd

Sometimes it's just cool to have a neato firearm, regardless of it's practicality (or lack thereof).

They make a great can-doo gun.

Put a stack of TP on the barrel and lean it in a corner of your bathroom within arms reach of the can. You'll never be caught with your pants down by OPFOR again.

        ETA: Don't. It's a joke.

Keep it in the family until your kids are old enough to decide what to do with it. This might be the start of a family tradition.

If you are a real stud at shooting 5 stand, put one shell in your mouth, yell pull, hit the first, eject and load, hit the second... I have been looking for a single shot to try that with, but alas, I am not a stud in 5 stand.

              Single-shots are perfect for trap.

I would say because you inherited it keep it in the family. Someone in the family that you pass it down to may value it more . If you serious don't have any use and don't care to pass it down you could always sell it. I have a Winchester 30-30 Canadian Centennial 1867 - 1967 that I inherited from my grandfather the gun has never been shot. I can careless about the gun don't even care to shoot it . I will just plan on passing it down to someone in the family in the end.

The beauty of a single-shot is it's simplicity. No moving parts, less to break and go wrong.

Why do you need it? It's a family heirloom. Keep it just for that reason.

Besides being a collector item, it's just fun to shoot a simple "bomb proof" shotgun sometimes.

Trying shooting skeet with it that's what I've done with my single shot.

Why do you need a pistol grip for a home defense shotgun?

As Clint Smith would say, "Learn to shoot the gun you have."

A single shot shotgun works perfectly fine for a home defense shotgun as long as you train and become proficient with it. You can fire a single shot shotgun just as quick as you can operate a pump shot gun if you train properly and often.

"I don't need a thousand dollar shotgun. I need to learn to run the gun I have."

                        and

I watched a guy shoot doubles with one once and e did decently well. I guess it is all inthe wrist, hehe.

Actually it can be done, providing the birds are flying through the hoop !!! I wouldn't recommand practicing for it . Its not that unusual, some shooters consistantly shoot the first bird a little late and WHAM they whack both.

To the OP, the 37s are not gonna make you rich. they go for about $150 at the local auction. The best thing, as so many have suggested, is to keep it and past it on to future generations as Great-Grand Pa's old shotguns
Trap is something you can shoot, as most 37s have a full choke.
